Thanks. It looks like the buyer was trying to rob them and the dealers shot back.

I think it's time for me to hit the shooting range.

I wonder if they the perpetrators actually knew any of the victims. Just seems unlikely that they would do this to a random apartment unit without believing something was inside of value.

But do be very careful with anyone knocking on your door for any reason. Of course home invaders don't knock but they can pretend to be on legitimate business while trying to take a peek inside to see what you have. Then they will return later after casing out their target.

I suspect there is at least some connection in home invasions between those doing them and the houses they are doing this to.

Also if you live alone, as a female, get a pair of old men's work boots from a thrift shop, muddy them up, and put them in view either outside the front door, in the back balcony if at apartments, or visible from a window if you even allow visibility through any windows.

The article says that it appears the robbers didn't know the victims, but it does seem like there's more to it. I was actually contemplating moving in that area a few years ago; glad I didn't. But there have been cases where people knocked on a door claiming to be some kind of repair person or salesperson and then forced their way in after the door was open. There haven't been any robberies at my apartments; there was just a couple of months earlier this year where someone was vandalizing cars just for the heck of it. It was probably a teen. I still feel safe doing everything at night at my complex and everyone knows I'm a gun owner.

I try to not let anyone know. If they do they might prepare for that and would rather have it be an unexpected surprise to anyone trying to do us harm.

It is good though that you do know others in your area. Just networking, socializing, shooting the **, and the like helps neighbors begin to look out for each other.

At our home we had a garage unit in the back that was converted into an apartment we rented out for a while but have since reconverted it back into a garage. During that time an ex-girlfriend of the guy who lived back there came and torched his car, parked right next to our bedroom window, it was all up in flames, gas can left behind, luckily no one was hurt and it caused no damage to our home. Because of one of our neighbors a greater disaster was most likely averted. He came and knocked, woke us up, and was already working the water hose to good effect by time I made it outside. It was something like 5 AM when it all happened.

We also had some jokers who drove past yelling one day, we heard a loud bang, then found out they paintballed the facade. Unsure if it was random or not but I always wonder who could have did that. Shenanigans and a minor nuisance only.

People see me go to work all the time, so that's how they know I have a gun and know how to use it. I think it's more of a deterrence if people are just looking to hit up a random house. It's not like I have anything particularly special a burglar would want.

Well good thing you feel safe overall since living in fear can totally deteriorate your quality of life.

One more thing for others to avoid. Buying big ticket items then leaving the boxes outside as a way to advertise what is inside. This happens more during the holidays than at any other time.

Yep, me too, even if I have seen people return stuff without boxes. Just makes it that much easier.
