Ok...I'm still searching and I know...I'm literally all over the map.

Today, I came across Iron Horse Canyon in Helotes. As I've written in many previous posts, I went to school in SA when the 1604 was "way out there...in the boonies". When I was out in SA last month, I was surprised to discover that anything around the 1604 isn't so BFE anymore. Maybe it comes from living in CA.

We're currently looking at The Heights in Stone Oak but think we might get more for our money by looking at other areas including Helotes, Comal County and Cibolo.

*********
I just wanted to say thanks to all you San Antonio residents who have been so generous with your feedback. I've found your comments to be informative and friendly and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this site.

Thanks!

Helotes is top notch.

Here's a picture I took from Helotes of the northwest side of SA.

Default The Ranch at Iron Horse Canyon

Pulte Homes builds some nice homes up on the hills above Helotes. Here is their website. Homes start at $320K for 2500SF to $386K for 4100SF. One of the plans even has a basement option (a little rare here in SA).

Don't get too excited about "greenery". Those are nasty little cedar trees. Just wait until you get "cedar fever", lol.

Helotes is very nice and actually has a strong community spirit. The community there is still fighting against having a Wal-Mart imposed upon them, which I hope they win because the Wal-Mart empire should be stopped! There are some beautiful areas within Helotes, like Grey Forest, where some of the Spurs players live. It's amazingly unspoiled, and that's because they don't allow too much of the land to be sold.

If you want to have access to San Antonio but don't want to live within the city limits, you could also look at Boerne and surrounding areas. Boerne is absolutely beautiful and well worth a look. Zip code is 78006. Not cheap though!

Helotes won the fight a long time ago. WalMart just said "we won't build there" and ended their fight to build a supercenter in Helotes.

Thanks for the Helotes & Boerne info. I will search for info on both 78006 and Grey Forest.

I know David Robinson lives in the Dominion (can't afford)...but where does Manu live?

We do you all think the water restrictions will be lifted?

Default Water Restrictions

Water restrictions will not end soon as we are 3 feet below (647 Ft) where Stage 1 begins and any decent rain (to replenish the Edwards Aquifer) will not come until next month (September). Of course, the way the weather is changing this may not come. By the way, there are some minor water restrictions in affect year round, regardless of the aquifer level (See link below for more details).
