For PrettyHateMachine
Hey there,
First of all, I've lived all over the world so my views of neighborhoods are a bit more global in scope. Second of all 78228 encompasses a lot of great homes, mostly in Inspiration Hills VERY SAFE. So whomever told you it was not safe is not really very accurate. My family has lived in 78228 since the early 60's. Not one bit of crime in the neighborhood.
The homes are all incredible deals. Mine is on 3/4 of an acre with a pool and is valued at only about 200K. In Dallas where, I also have a home, it would be a million two easily. Young couples, doctors, lawyers are moving in as it is close to the medical center. In fact it is a bit hard to find available homes in Inspiration Hills as people move in and never leave.
There are so many great neighborhoods in SA that are still affordable and centrally located, compared to Dallas and Houston. It is still one of the most affordable areas in America. The Mc Mansion effect is nothing like what is going on in Dallas and Houston. There are still loads of charming homes all over the city.

Thought I'd post the same info here that I posted on "Modern Homes" - If anyone's interested I know of an O'Neil Ford for sale, not listed, cheap by Ford standards, but INCREDIBLY beat up. DM if ya want more info...and, please, please, Moderator cut: TOS Violation I have NO interest in this property other than it getting to an MCM/O'Neil Ford enthusiast who can hopefully save it.

just rotting away, what a shame, all that work,
all done by hand, just trashed, ugh.
Here are some recent pics I took while sneaking around the building

googie, looking at your pix, I do believe those planters are lead,
not copper.
I have four of Lynn's planters, in need of restoration.
here are a few pix of mine.

Just found a cool MCM (1955?) in a GREAT area, not on MLS yet, and very low-priced in my opinion (144K, and it being a buyers market, I bet a deal could be made, BUT this is pretty dang low for the area), it's a fixer-upper though (not nearly as bad as that O'Neil Ford I posted a couple of weeks ago though for that outrageous price (AND in the same neighborhood no less!):
Again, Moderator cut: TOS violation just a rabid MCM enthusiast who wants folks who dig MCM to buy these homes and NOT re-muddle 'n' Home Depot-ize 'em. Cheerio!

I MAY have posted about this place before, can't recall, BUT I just took some pics, which I know I never posted, sooooo....a super-cool MCM O’Neil Ford that's not listed for sale anywhere (on a great lot in a really desirable area of San Antonio - adjacent to Terrell Hills and Alamo Heights, AND more importantly, just down the street from the ONLY HEB Central in San Antonio, hardy har har!). Downside is the place is a complete wreck, a SERIOUS fixer-upper (the original owner was recently placed in a rest home, he has Alzheimer’s, so he hasn’t kept it up for years). Anyhoo, it’s not “officially” for sale, but I had a realtor friend of mine dig into it, and the owners’ son is taking offers as its just sitting there empty, although he won’t consider anything under 250K evidently (and just recently raised the price to 275K the neighbor said! She also lives in an O’Neil Ford as well, but a completely gutted Home Depot-ized version of one, I wouldn’t even consider it a Ford anymore at all. She also said, unfortunately, that this Ford has a lot of issues: foundation problems, water damage, roof is basically collapsing, etc.), BTW, the son/seller is a serious a**hole lawyer who is not very pleasant to deal with according to my realtor pal...Anyway, if this was restored correctly it would be amazing. If anyone is interested contact me here and I'll un-private my DM for ya (due thanks to some very annoying DM's from a certain person this forum) - oh yeah, Moderator cut: TOS Violation I have NO interest in the place financially, just hope someone buys it and restores it to it’s former glory (as I live nearby).

Didn't this place have an estate sale not that long ago...I think we went to it. This house backed up into Ft Sam near the old hospital if it is the same place. VERY bad shape both inside and outside if it is the same house. At the time of the estate sale, they said that the home had been bought by someone who wanted to bring it back to standards...did the sale fall thru???

where are any floorplans for MCM
I know you are talking about homes that already exist- but- I am wanting to build one, in another area. Where can I find floorplans? I have searched many, many places on the internet. I have not found any books at the bookstores or large box stores. Any suggestions, please? I love the 50-'ish' styles! Flat/low sloped roofs, glass walls, open interior... where oh where??

Yes, yes, and yes. The guy who was gonna buy it had 90 days to raise the cash according to a friend o' mine, and couldn't cough it up when the time came. Then a young architect was wanting to buy and restore it, but the owner (well, his son) would not budge on the price, he couldn't afford the house AND all the work (which would cost MAJOR cash, you saw the place, a real WRECK) it would entail, so he had to pass, which was a major bummer. The owner is just asking waaaaay too much, but if I was a Richie Rich hipster from SoCal, I'd scoop it up like pronto.

Wow...you are right on with this one...it was in need of MAJOR work...in fact, maybe so much that it will never get the needed attention.
I know from the looks of the rest of the neighborhood (and neighbors) they must be THRILLED that this place is finally hopeful of attention so needed.
I just pray that it is not demolished for the lot...something that, based on the condition of the current property, is not all that far fetched.
