That's the neighborhood where I lived in the 90s. East French Pl right off St. Mary's. I especially love the Oneil Ford on 108 Schreiner Pl ($856,000) Ouch!!

That O'Neil Ford on Schreiner was for sale a couple of years ago for a tad over 500K! There's an even nicer Ford in Monticello Park that went for about 200K in 2002 - ugh! The kids of the original owner (Ralph Karem, yep, the guy who stated Karam's restaurant way back) needed to dump it quick and simply put a For Sale sign up on the front lawn. I almost bought it, and will forever kick myself for not snapping it up. I can't even drive on that street (Mary Louise) anymore without getting severely aggitated. Ford's are rare in San Antonio, which is weird considering he lived here practically his entire life.
As for MCM's, there are plenty in Terrell Hills (several Milton Ryan's, a few Roger Rasbach's, who I think I misspelled?)...but they'll cost you dearly.
Others are scattered around Oak Hills and the surrounding area, as well as Castle Hills.

I just stumbled upon your thead; We live in the Northwood Estates area of San Antonio; It is inside Loop 410 between Nacogdoches and Harry Wurzbach Drive. This area is filled with MCM homes that are still reasonably priced. The cool ones go fast. We are in the process of moving back to New York and will be putting our pad up for sale very soon. If anyone out there is interested lets tawk. Our place is an absolute gem. I hate to let it go.

Back to NY, really? If you don't mind me asking, what part?
I'm currently in the Big Apple.

Hey Latincowboy,
Before we moved back to SA we lived in Windsor Terrace (Brooklyn) almost exactly ten years ago.
We are looking at the North Shore (Suffolk) in particular Huntington, Port Jefferson, Northport areas.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? I found an awesome MCM in Ossining which had been on the market a long time at 659K. The realtor said that they just took an offer on it the day before.
I would appreciate any local insight.

Hey baktuny,
I have some questions. What zip code is "inside Loop 410 between Nacogdoches and Harry Wurzbach Drive."? What do you consider reasonably prices? Do you live in a MCM home, and if so do you have any pics? Did you use a realtor with MCM knowledge? Can you tell me of other areas that have any? Thanks!!

That would be 78209, and no, it's not very reasonable in my view. Mostly ranches with a few minor MCM traits. Think Terrell Hills with an ever-so-slightly lower price tag. My grandmother lived there 40+ years. A couple of years ago she flipped her ol' ranch for an obscene profit. It's basically priced high since it's in the Alamo Heights school district (well, most of the area anyway). Nice area though, but overinflated in my humble opinion.
This is typical of the area:
$439,500

Yeah thats a lil' out of my price range. I wouldn't mind getting a fixer in the price range of 100-180K. I don't need to live in the 78209 area, although it would be nice.

I just found this little ranch with MCM traits (check out the porch area in the front - neat. Also, nice fireplace.) in Leland Terrace, it's in the 78209 zip, and actually a quite nice smallish enclave of MCMish homes. It's a fairly overlooked subdivision close to everything in Alamo Heights, and in that coveted school district, no real chance of depreciation down the line. Maybe you could get them to shave a bit off the price? Doesn't look to need much work. Thank goodness they didn't "re-muddle" too much.

Not sure about locations outside of the metroplex area. I do have some friends in Washingtonville and it is nice there.
