Hey PrettyHateMachine, you might wanna check out an area called "Shearer Hills." I had a friend who lived there back in the late 80's, and had pretty much forgotten about it, but while taking a shortcut earlier today I noticed that it was packed with 50's & 60's ranches, lots of A-Frames, etc. The area is pretty nice actually, reminds me a bit of Castle Hills. It's close to the Olmos Park area, off McCullough and Oblate. It's one of those 50/60's subdivisions that's just off-the-radar for some reason or other, and kinda has that "retirement" vibe
Anyway, I noticed the following MCM for sale while driving, peeked in the window, looks clean, etc., has major potential IMHO - just seems like something you'd dig. Hell, I dig it, I'm just too wrapped up (obsessed?) in finding something similar in my own little grid (if this swank lil' joint was nestled in Terrell Hills, I'd call my realtor tommorrow - SOLD!).
Here's the link to the listing:

On a happy note, it seems to have very minor re-muddling heaped on it from what the pics show (the bathroom and that backyard patio is a bit out-of-whack - but hell, chop that patio down, install an Ikea kitchen and bath and yer ready-set-go)...AND the price is right - I bet you anything there's some wiggle room on that pricetag. Sweet.

Awesome Googie, that's exactly the kind of house that would be perfect for us. Great bones, and like you said, an Ikea kitchen and bath remodel would be just right. Man, that's a nice house. I could just picture myself reading a book on my Eames lounge chair in that living room. Again, you always come thru, I bet you MPinSC would love it too. Sweet indeed!!

There is nice MCM listing on the SE side of town. It is in Pecan Valley on Golf View Drive. It is MLS ID#: 618509. House is about 41 years old. Only one picture to view.

I have been driving around some of San Antonio's older neighborhoods in search of MCMs. As mentioned in earlier posts, there are some in Castle Hills and Terrell Hills. I have seen a few in Shearer Hills. I have also seen some in the Inspiration Hills area and I have seen some in a small area enclosed by 410, Babcock, Fredricksburg, and Hillcrest. They may not all be actula MCMs, but they do have many traits of an MCM. I have also seen a couple around the Valley Hi area near the Air Force Village retirement home. I saw a nice looking A-Frame style. I am thinking of finding some of the old plan books from the 1950s and getting an architect to help me update them so that I can build some. Ebay is wonderful source for some of these books.

You should also check out Oak Hills Terrace (off Callahan, near Fredericksburg Road), there's some seriously cool early 60's MCMish stuff in that neighborhood (which are NEVER for sale it seems, ugh). I really need to take some pics of that area, VERY cool stuff.
