It just drives me nuts when people go to such great lengths to make MCM look like anything other than what it is, like trying to magically transform a Spanish Revival into, say, a Craftsman - makes NO sense and doesn't fool anybody (and don't get me started on those vinyl/glass "country cottage" Home Depot doors you see on practically every MCM these days, ugh)...I say gut it all call IKEA !

Yes, I forgot to mention those "Italian" columns in the bedroom. What were they thinking??

Just 5 years ago this particular house would have sold for maybe 100,000. Drats!

I'd loves me a ranch. Good luck with that. Of course let us know the details when it's all said and done.

Hopefully the Ryan house pictured on the front page (3 pics total in the newspaper - not shown on the website) will sell to someone who will appreciate and restore the property...unfortunately the asking price is just so dang high for a property in not-so-good shape, I still think it'll go the teardown route. This Ingraham guy drives me nuts, he goes on and on about how wonderful and important the house is AND even goes on record stating how incredibly cheap it was when he bought it, but then refuses to budge even slightly to sell to a person who will actually maintain and really appreciate the home for its architecture (I mean, his starting price was 540K...three years ago! Dude, get a clue, no potential buyer in 3 years is a pretty strong indication that the property is valued way too high.). If some developer offered him 485K tomorrow, I have no doubt he would sell in a hearbeat, teardown or not, this was the mercenary vibe I got from him. Oh well, what can you do? I know, I know, I sound really bitter, but I really tried to get him to lower the price to what I felt was more than fair for the condition, etc., but it was like banging my head against a wall, and really bummed the hell out of me.

There is an interesting *new* business building that was recently built in Castle Hills on Northwest Military. Where the Diamond Shamrock station used to be. I'm not sure what is there but the building itself is pretty interesting. It looks more like something that would have gotten torn down 10 or 20 years ago, rather than something that would be built new today.

I'm currently living in NYC and will be relocating to SA in Feb 08. Then I'll be in the market for a home. I'm definitely looking to purchase an MCM (50s Modern/60s ranch). My price range is 100-180K. Hopefully I'll be able to find something decent with that budget.

Not much. I do know several MCM's in SA are designed by noted architects such as O'neill Ford and Milton Ryan. Milton Ryan's houses are exclusivley in Terrell Hills, which are way out of my price range. I wouldn't even waste my time looking to buy one of their homes.
Something generic but MCM-ish is what I think I'll end up with. And I have no problem with that. By the time I'm thru renovating whatever I wind up buying, it'll be to my liking.
What's your story? Are you also in the market for an MCM?
