Default Map of San Antonio in early 60s...

Is there a way and a place I might be able to get a map of the nearby neighborhoods of downtown San Anonio of about 50 years ago? I grew up near where the Hemisfair is and saw it being built since day 1. I used to go to school where the tower is standing now. St. Michael's..It would be nice to see those street names again that are not there anymore or not as long. I.E. Matagorda, Water, Labor, Indianola, Goliad, Santa Clara, Sycamore, Laffyette, Peach, Dakota, Victoria, Can't think of anymore...Does anyone remember those?

There is an overlay that can be toggled on and off with current streets & street names.

You are in for a treat. This is SA in 1929. Your memory is quite excellent. Laffyette is actually listed as Lafitte.

This one is from 1909.

1889.

Those are all the ones where you can see some of the streets you named clearly listed. Here are a few more. I have spent hours looking at these in the past. They are such a joy. Be sure to check out the 1886 panoramic map as well.

You are right about Lafitte St. I couldn't remember the spelling but I had a friend that lived on that street. Thanx for sharing those maps. It's good to escape the present for a while and go wayyy back.

Sonny Chiba57,
My grandparents and great grandparents lived on Newton St. across the street from a public school. My grandmother and mother went to St. Joseph's Academy on Commerce (St. Joske's). I remember all of those streets. It was hard for my grandparents to leave there for Hemisfair. She was born in that house as was my mother and my aunt.
Thanks Merovee for the maps. I really enjoyed looking at them.
