I used to drive a lot in town, and honestly, I was stopped by a procession about once a month. Not huge ones, but still......yes, they are annoying, but I always am so grateful it's not me getting the limo ride. It's just a minute or two out of your life and you should use it (IMO) to reflect on your own life and all the good things in the world.......like CUPCAKES. German Chocolate Cupcakes. mmmmmm

ahh, thanks for mentioning German Chocolate, because I don't like that at all

I guess I just have really bad luck and keep running into the mega lines. The last one was for some local politician and we literally sat there for at least 20 minutes. This was on a lunch break from work, so it did have a real impact because that is a time limited thing for most people. Most people here also don't turn their cars off for anything, so it also adds to pollution and eats up a little more of the limited global oil supply. Obviously nothing major on their own, but it all adds up..

That was just one example of the many things that occur for no real reason and have no real benefit. It's like all the stupid fake holidays the greeting card manufacturers come up with. Would it kill people to just have the funeral on their own terms and leave the rest of the people out of the equation? Now that's what I call being considerate. Forcing everyone to "respect" something they probably don't even care about is just rude.

and how are innocents inconvenienced with a mandatory sobriety checkpoint? Hint: they're not... It's easy to avoid too, just don't go to a bar. I've lived here for almost 10 years and the closest I've been to a bar was Saturday's visit to Ojos Locos. Not sure if you'd call it a bar, but it did have the 51% sign up, so it probably is. If there would've been a checkpoint in the parking lot, I would've shook their hands for doing a great service.
Wow, now you say it's the bars responsibility to make sure it's customers obey the law? Does Harley-Davidson ensure you don't speed on your motorcycle? Is the manufacturers of the guns you have responsible for ensuring you use them appropriately? How much babysitting do you expect? I'm sure you're against government intervention in our lives, but you think it's OK for private businesses to get involved?

Speaking of which, what do you think a bar could legally do to a patron? They cannot stop them from getting in a car and driving off, they don't have the authority to do so. About all they could do is notify the police, at which point they could intervene only if they witness actions that lead them to believe the driver is impaired. If anyone tried to detain a person they would be setting themselves up for a lawsuit, they don't have the right. About all a bar can do is refuse service to someone they feel is impaired, and I doubt you'll see that happening too often.

And it's easy to explain how innocent people are inconvenienced by mandatory sobriety checkpoints, the simply fact that they are not committing any crime is reason enough to make it an inconvenience; much less the fact that probable cause is required before any police stop can be made. So not only is it an inconvenience, it's illegal.

I like Sapph's suggestion of taking the time to reflect on one's own life. Funeral precessions are a reminder of the limited time we all have on this planet, and arguing about little things like having to wait a few minutes to allow one to past is more of a waste of time than the actual event!

Well......my first thought is usually...I wonder how many cars there would be at mine? Like 3 for my brothers, or would they carpool? My mom, only wow, I would hope I outlive her. The 2 kids....this friend, that friend, no she has to work, LOL....welcome to my thoughts......and then I remember, I am being cremated!! I don't think we'll have an oven procession. Everyone can stay home and bake CUPCAKES in my honor.

Coconuts, pecans, gooey stuff holding it together....what's not to like?!?!?!?!?

The bar does have the legal responsibility to insure they are not getting a person drunk. You have no legal right to get drunk in public and I'm pretty sure it's actually illegal everywhere. That is completely different than selling a car, gun, motorcycle, or cupcake.. That is why the TABC is (finally) cracking down on the bar that sold the drinks to that POS that killed the cop. It would be like a person going into a gun store and saying they need to buy a gun so they can kill their neighbor. The store has a legal obligation to not allow the sale. Sometimes it is their responsibility and you know I'm all about personal responsibility.

One thing I'm not about is coconut except for a few exceptions (Clark Bar, Snowballs, Macaroons, and a few other things). Nothing ruins a good sweet like a giant flake of coconut.

and it's posts like that that always insure I'll pretty much always agree with sapph..
