Saw on Twitter that the Boardwalk has complimentary beer today. I haven't heard of any Fiesta events that offer FREE BEER.

Actually I think they have free beer on Saturdays, but only up to 2 kegs. Freetail beer, I believe. They've applied for a beer license. Until then enjoy the free beer or you can bring your own.

Free beer today, but encouraged donations for the Susan Komen Breast Cancer event they had. I went out there for the Pakistani street food cart, but they weren't open...ran out of food, and prepping for their next service. Disappointing to say the least. While free beer is a nice gesture, drinking in direct blazing sun with no shade is no fun. I don't know how well this food truck park will do by mid summer. There is little refuge from the sun, the few table side umbrellas aren't going to cut it.

This article on the front page of today's Express-News reminded me of this thread and all of the griping about how food trucks operate way up on the north side so far from downtown.

Food trucks hit roadblocks in S.A. - San Antonio Express-News

Turns out there's a law on the books in San Antonio that prevents mobile food vendors from parking within 300 feet of a restaurant and operating without the permission of that restaurant. The article talks about a couple that wanted to open a food truck court on a vacant lot in Southown, but the nearby restaurant owners complained to the city and the city had to enforce this law that's on the books.

THAT'S why the food trucks are so far from downtown. City laws in San Antonio are designed to protect the market for fixed restaurants.

If you're interested in food trucks, pick up today's paper. In addition to the page 1 story, the Taste section has a full page and a half devoted to describing the various food trucks that operate in San Antonio.
