Just 5 years ago UTSA was still on the outskirts of town. It's only recently that all of the development at La Cantera, the Rim, etc. has happened.

Additionally, UTSA is still transitioning from a commuter campus. You usually see those types of businesses around residential campuses so that they're easily accessible to students. Heck...at my university we had a grocery store across the street. But at UTSA you have students living in apartments or with their families, so they are going to restaurants, etc. around those areas which may or may not be very close to campus.

True. UTSA is currently building and planning new housing, as the want to live on campus is there. Many of the students to UTSA are now coming from outside Bexar County and even outside the state of Texas. This will only increase in the coming years. I think campus housing for the upcoming semester filled up early in the year (March or April) for University Oaks, Chisolm Hall, Chaparral Village, Laurel Village (the few parts that are open already), and even most nearby off-campus complexes. The school is aiming for housing of at least 6,200 students in the near future. Once this becomes a reality I'm sure we will see some of the mentioned development in the area. That is if there is any space available after all the major projects in the region are said and done.
