Further, I have NEVER seen anyone make a left onto a left at a freeway intersection at ANY TIME.

Just 'cause it's legal doesn't make it safe, and it also doesn't mean I have to do it. Keep that in mind.
Have you ever been at the intersection the OP is referencing for this thread? They are talking about the access roads that you use to access another access road; either 151 or 410. There is no way you can possibly turn onto 410 or 151 from these access roads at the intersections in question. It is simply one access road either crossing or turning onto another access road and they are all one-way. The only way to access 151 or 410 from the access road is to use the ramp, which doesn't even have a light.
If someone cannot judge whether or not it is safe to make a legal traffic maneuver, they really need to take an honest look at themselves and maybe decide they probably shouldn't be on the road driving with all the competent people. That would so eliminate about 90% of the drivers in this city...

So it's completely legal and I do it at the 151/410 interchange all the time!

Cheers! M2
I do too...

I have never seen anyone do that. Certainly a few do obviously when none of us are looking (^_~) but most do not.

I'm sorry, did you fail to see that I actually mentioned in my post the same intersection, implying that not only do I know the intersection to which the OP was referring, but that I have even been on it? I live very close to that intersection, and I do realize that it does not offer direct access to 410, however, it is a VERY busy interchange, especially at certain times.

"If someone cannot judge whether or not it is safe to make a legal traffic maneuver", they need to stay safe and not make that maneuver at all and not worry about taking "an honest look at themselves". Please.

shoot. I can't even figure out which lane to get into to get on to 410 west from 151 west let alone tell you if you can go on red light when you're head in the same direction.

I can drive almost everywhere in San Antonio without flipping out..but 151/410 wigs me out.

I turn left on red at that light. It is legal and should be done if oncoming traffic (from the right) is clear.

Try telling that to most drivers here.

That intersection doesnt bother me but I have lived a stones throw from 151 for almost 25 years.

410/I10 on the other hand? Now we are talking about wigging out.

I live around the intersection and I won't take the turn. I'd just rather play it safe, go the speed limit of course but too much traffic at any time I'm in the area to feel confident enough to make the turn. Usually it's done downtown but I'm worried a pedestrian might dart across. Even though there are no pedestrians at the 151/410 interchange, it's still kinda unnerving seeing car zoom right past the red light.

The bottom line is that it is legal and can be done safely...but if someone is uncomfortable with making that turn on red, I suggest they stay in the center lane (which turns also) and not hold up those who can safely navigate that corner on red...
