For we're seriously considering giving this a go. What area/location would you consider ideal, adequate, readily accessible? SE/SW Military? Brooks? Along a major or minor thoroughfare?

What genres/titles/topics would you be most interested in grabbing? New, used, or a mix of both?

And please - let's leave the non-bibliophilic propensity of geography out of this?

Brooks City-Base or City Base West.

Preferably a wide variety of new books if having to choose between new and used but if both types were available that would be the best.

This is terribly needed.

I'd prefer Southtown, so I could walk to it. I like smaller independent stores, a mix of new and used. All genres, not just NYT best sellers.

I'd accept a large bookstore in the Brooks area.

(I second) Southtown would be a perfect spot for a homegrown bookstore... It fits the hood demographic and would attract a whole lot of folks around here looking for this kind of business.

I'm biased since I work near these highways; I would like a bookstore near 281/410 or IH35/410. I like to read the classics which can be used, some contemporary fiction, and non-fiction books covering the social/behavioral sciences (psychology, criminology, sociology, history, etc.) I also have an interest in business administration subjects so I can test out of the prerequisites before I go for an MBA since my BA is not in business. I think it would be helpful to provide books covering academic subjects for the students on the south side who might be doing research projects. Also, having the classics is a must for pre-AP or AP students because they usually have to buy books for the required summer readings that can be highlighted and annotated. This bookstore with a lot of used books on Naco Perrin was a lifesaver for me because the new books would be expensive or out of stock at the big book stores and out of stock at the library.

I would vote for a bookstore on the intersection of 37 and Military.

Would love to see a bookstore anywhere in the city that would be comparable to the Strand Bookstore on lower Broadway in NYC. I used to spend many hours in the Strand among the dusty books, some piled up so that the aisles were very narrow. A choice of used, new, unusual and hard to find.

Oh how I miss it! Sighhhhh

There is a Half price bookstore near McCullough and 410.

I believe a book store opened up in South park Mall a few years ago and ended up closing its' doors.
Location. Location. Location....

I would think the rent would be extremely high in the Brooks City Base complex. Might have to be a large chain to pay the kind of rent they'd want. Perhaps, a little further down Military Drive or Goliad Rd might be more feasible.

Oh man....I really do wish you luck and hope for nothing but spectacular success. Bookstores are huge money pits. Lots of inventory expenses, for one. Not to mention rent and staffing costs. I'd look into demographics for the area (which I'm sure you've done already).
