Wife told me there were a higher than normal number of absences at the elementary school she works at. Also got an automatic telephone message from the principal last night reminding folks that school is still in session.

Do people think the schools aren't heated or something?

I don't know but it's just cold.... just slight discomfort for the next few days....

To add to your question - why in the HELL were people driving 30 mph on 1604 this morning???
There's no ice!

Hellooooo..... the lights are on but nobody's home.....

I've known people who do this. Their mentality is that the kids don't want to get out of bed and face the cold and they really don't want to either so they let the kids stay home.

I'd venture a guess that RAiN keeps some kids home. It's called "lazy parents".

A meteorologist on KENS advised everyone to fill up with gas and get their oil changed before the cold front blew in because we wouldn't want to be outside. One of my coworkers said he was stocking up on stuff so he wouldn't have to go to the store. It's uncomfortably cold, but it's not that serious. I am walking back and forth to the laundromat right now washing and drying my clothes, I went shopping at Walmart, and I will be filling up with gas before I go to work this evening.

Many are only used to hot weather and little rain here so when it gets cold or rains there's a lot of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. And God help them if it sleets or there happens to be some snow flurries.
