I bake bread or make casseroles. Anything where the oven has to be on for an hour or so. And I just threw on another pair of socks. And a scarf. If I could type with mittens on, I'd be wearing them too.

We keep an extra camping stove around the house for emergency cooking. We loose power a lot around here. You can always boil some water to put humidity in the air along with cooking something hot.

Again, be careful!!

Since you don't when you're next on the grid to be turned off, turn up the heat while you have electricity. Of course, that may defeat the purpose of what the brownouts are for.

Space heater used safely, and baking are a great way to warm up a house. I would also use an electric blanket to keep warm.

I cuddle up next to my adorable Shih Tzu and throw the blanket over us when I need the extra warmth. Dang, sure wish that dog was here in the office with me now....

To funny. I was looking at this thread and my x (who is visiting) said do the laundry. I said no that would fill her house with steam. At that point I got clobbered in the back of the head with a "No you idiot, DO THE LAUNDRY"!

I have a couple Mr. Heater propane heaters, they heat up the garage pretty good.

I have an oil-filled electric heater that looks like the old school house steam heaters I have in my bedroom,...it has an adjustable thermostat I can set to a comfortable temperature. I close my bedroom door and leave the unused parts of my house sin heat. Just me, my doggy and occasional female acquaintance. No use in heating the whole house, unless I have company.

- Buy a NEW small space heater with a fan a thermostat so it will shut on and off. Use common sense, place it on the floor away from EVERYTHING. If you have dogs or kids, put it on a cleared kitchen counter. If you have cats...well if you have cats walking on your counter tops, you have bigger problems than no heat.

- A few SUPERVISED candles can help...the tall religous candles work best and you can get a few prayers in at the same time. Again leave them buring on a cleared counter top or flat bottom sink.

Again COMMON SENSE People, if you have wooden floors, lots of drapes or rugs...use your head and clear everything.

- Roll bath towels up and place them on the window & door sills.

- Buy some spandex pants and wear those underneath your sweats or jeans....it will make you much warmer.

When all else fails...Use the SNUGGIE!
