Just got off the phone with my wife. We took our girls to a pediatrician for their first visit since we moved to SA on a recommendation from someone else. She was thoroughly unimpressed.

We're the kind of parents who are NOT down with:

- loading up mere infants with tons of vaccinations
- having antibiotics dismissively prescribed at the slightest sniffle
- less-than-clean waiting rooms
- insecure MDs who bristle or mouth off at any sort of questioning from the parent

I'm all for vaccinations, by the way, but mainly the essential ones, and I like them spread out over time and only starting after a child's immune system has had a chance to mature somewhat and stabilize.

Anyway, PM me if you want to know who failed us on the above four criteria today... And any recommendations of decent pediatricians would be very appreciated...

My kids go to Dr. Xavier Cortada, at 281 and Bitters (in the Sterling Bank building). The office is always spotless and there's never more than one other family in the waiting room. Every time my kids have been sick in the last six years, he's always been able to see them that day. We've never had to sit in the waiting room more than 20 minutes, and it's usually much quicker than that. He's very intelligent too. I took my daughter in once because she was waking up with red spots on her legs, and he told me to go home and look for a water leak. When I got home, I went in her bedroom to check, and found the carpet in her closet wet.

In the six years we've been going there, my kids have each had maybe one prescription for antibiotics.

We use Northeast Pediatric Associates, specifically the one on Village Dr. We love them and many of my friends use them and have not had one compliant.

We also use NE Pediatrics Village Drive - great so far, and I just went yesterday b/c little one has the flu.

Did you discuss your desire for an alternate vaccination schedule with your current practice? In my experience some are open to that, but many are not. We just follow the AAP schedule and guidelines, so I don't know if NE Pediatrics will let you deviate from the standard vaccination schedule. I do know that they routinely combine vaccines, so if you're interested in using them, I'd certainly talk to them about your wishes before even scheduling an appt.
