At 1604 and Guilbeau at the stop light in extremely light traffic at 6:20 am. The way he was weaving on the road and nearly falling out of his window, I'd suspect a bit of very late partying the night previous.

I hate road rage, too, LovingSAT!

I know our traffic congestion is not nearly as bad as it is in other cities, but that doesn't have much to do with bad driving. San Antonians are 30% more likely to get into a car accident than the national average and we regularly get below average ratings for driving in studies.

I agree with some of the others. When San Antonians are not behind the wheel, we're nice enough.

I'd love to see some of the local yokels who have never been out of the city go drive in Houston on 610.

I find that the older people in San Antonio are more apt to be genuinely friendly, but plenty of the young ones have chips on the shoulder.

Yes, it's a friendly place, but like anywhere, it takes time and effort to build a community of friends. I moved here as a single 30-something, no family, knew no one in the city. Over time I made a wide circle of friends, met my husband (also new to town), made even more friends, and now live in a very vibrant, active community and can comfortably say I have a wonderful family of friends - people I'd turn to in an emergency, to help with my kids, as well as to have fun.

410 is quickly becoming 610 if not already!

I think I've met more friendly people than unfriendly. When I was younger and worked as a Cashier in retail, I always got very annoyed at the number of people who tried to talk to me, making short discussions when they needed to be paying attention to their purchase and getting their money out. I'm not your therapist, please don't hold up my line, let me get the other customers out of the store and away from me as quickly as possible.

So YES, I would say it's a very friendly place...

Just because traffic is worse elsewhere, doesn't make it ok here. I come from Los Angeles. I've lived in Bangkok (traffic jam capitol). I've lived/worked in many congested cities. I still hate SA traffic. Poorly designed roads. Roads not built to keep up with new development, poorly developed city (sprawl before infrastructure) create a mess. Who needs traffic? Fortunately, living downtown, I rarely experience it now unless I get stuck out by 1604 for some reason.
