I'm curious what the sales tax rate is in Bexar and Guadalupe Counties in San Antonio.

In California we not only pay a state income tax, we pay sales tax ranging from 7.25% to 8.75%, depending on the county you live in.

A side note: Is Sonic big in San Antonio? What local fast food dives are popular?

Thanks.

Default Taxes in Texas

No Income Tax
Sales tax in San Antonio is 8.25%
Property tax is high (but Texas is lowering it a little in the next two years (unfortunately, higher home values will eat the savings up)
If you purchase a vehicle, I believe the sales tax is 6.50% (also, new state law will tax a fair market value and not what you paid...or said you paid which is normally less.

Sonic is increasing its presence here in San Antonio and you can see them in outlaying cities like Hondo, Bandera, etc.

Sonic is around town, the leader of the band so to speak in SA has got to be Taco Cabana and the Bill Millers BBQ. You can find the other Taco joints around but you have to look for then. After those two its Whataburger. one on every corner type of burger joint

San Antonio has a bunch of locally owned fast food restaurants.

Bill Miller
Sea Island
Taco Cabana
Barnicle Bills
And more.

We also have Sonic's everywhere as well as things like Krystal, Fatburger, McDonalds, Wendy's, Chipotle, FreeBirds, Whataburger, and everything else.

I know the property tax is 3% where we are moving to. We weren't real aware of that before we decided to have our home built, but it is what it is. Hubby says we will probably sell the house in 2 to 3 years and have another one built in a county with a lower tax rate, but still be close to SA. We'll see. The house isn't even finished yet and he's already talking about selling it!!!

Even with the property tax, the house is still a huge bargain - compared to California prices! For our whole lives we've been "brainwashed" by California housing prices. Now that we've ventured to a far away land reality is setting in. "You mean we don't have to be ripped off anymore?????"

Just thought I'd throw this website out there (having nothing to do with taxes):

http://www.wheretobuild.com/SubCity/...1/qx/index.htm

You can see where the new communities are being built & then search them out. As far as I can tell, the only way to get more info is to fill out their questionnaire but if you type the name of the development into your browser you'll probably find more info.

Thanks to all of you for the info.

I'm not too worried about property taxes because there is no state income tax.

I'm bummed about the security alert for the US due to the recent bomb plot. I want to visit SA before the end of the year and hope the climate is a little better for flying then.

210...photos?

Sorry about the wait Jaded. I've been busy with work and getting ready for school, etc. The reason I was so quick with the other pictures was because I took them and they were already on my comouter. The others I will either have to take or look for on the internet. But I promise you will get them.

Default Home Builders in SA

Sampaguita,

Ditto what 210 said about the web site. However, there is at least one inaccurate location. The Highpoint at Westcreek is all wrong. The picture is NOT that area (looks like windmills on top of a bluff). The price range is 130K-200K (not 200K-300K), and the location on the map is too far north (it is about 3 miles south of that (same location as the Vistas of Westcreek..yellow box near Talley Road on west side of map). It makes me wonder if other info is suspect. Also, there are numerous new housing areas in Northwest San Antonio that are not depicted. Still, an interesting site and a step in the right direction.

By the way, how do I know this...simple, I live in the Villages of Westcreek and have been in that development several times...nice view though.
