Just curious if anyone has done this and if so how much do you think an average home with average windows would cost.
Thanks

They generally charge by the square inch. We did this about 8 years ago, and paid about $900 for 15 windows, with a 90% screen.

I had most of our house done about 10 years ago. Seven windows were about $450.

Can you please let me know how much privacy the screens give you. On one side of our home the neighbors are really close and was wondering if these would stop them from seeing into our kitchen table. Also does it change the view looking out? Thank you

Looking in: Can't see anything daytime, murky at night. The farther away from the window, the less you can see shapes. It also depends on the inside lighting.

Looking out: It does "dim" it some during the day. It took me about a week to get used to it. Makes it look like it is somewhat overcast outside. We elected to keep out existing screens on (so as not to misplace them), and the two screens create a darker effect. But I usually look out the top of the window, anyway. I also keep the blinds tipped about 1/2 way, anyway.

Ours are 90% screens, in dark brown. My in-laws got 90% also, but in a tan shade to match the window frames on their house. Pretty much the same effect as our house. Keep in minds that you would usually put these on the west and south facing sides of your house, not necessarily on all 4 sides (well, of course, unless you wanted to.)

90% is dark looking out...80% isn't bad...they do give complete privacy in the day

They are too expensive to buy, but only about $15-$20 per window to make, everything you need is at lowe's right next to the glass cutting...

I saw a Groupon for solar screens today, I was wondering how well they work.

Pobre, do the tan shades your inlaws got keep out as much light?

They seem to let in a tad bit more light than ours, however, they have very strong direct pm sun, and our west facing windows get slightly filtered sun, from more of an angle. But you can definitely see just fine out both colors.

The view to the outside is somewhat distorted - you cannot go right up to the window and look out - you need to take a couple steps back to see out clearly.

Remember to put crossbars in the solar screens where you normally see the division between the upper and lower windows. I think it really detracts from the look of the house when people put on whole window solar screens without the crossbars.
