Finally had a chance to make it to the DPS to get our TX license...of course they took our old ones and gave us the print out and said I could use them to show id. That was 2 weeks ago and they said it would take 3-6 weeks to get by mail.
My grandmother passed away and her funeral is in Indiana....I have no other old licenses laying around, I have no passport, and no other photo Id...could I even fly??

I had to show my temp. ID to the WalMart clerk last week for a $150 bill and he gave me a hard time, I can only imagine the crap I will get at airport security!

Anyone know??

From TSA ID Requirements for Airport Checkpoints:

Quote:
- Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
Since your temporary license was issued by the state, and has a photo on it (which wasn't the case a few years ago), you should be good to go!

However, be prepared to go through extra security screening because of it; at least that is what I've read from a few travel sites on the subject.

You should have less trouble in Texas, since they know what the temporary license looks like; but it may be more of an issue when you fly out of Indiana.

My condolences concerning your grandmother, may she rest in peace.

Cheers! M2

I had to make an emergency trip from TX to CO back in 2009. Like you, I had just received my temporary TX license. I flew out of SA and passed through security without any problems. They didn't ask for any other ID, but I did have a CO library card with photo at the ready just in case. YMMV

I have flown with a temporary license. It was accepted as if it was the permanent license.

I have even flown with NO photo ID. Flying with no ID is like volunteering for the maximum screening. Your carry-on gets x-rayed and manually searched. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it definitely adds time to the screening process.

You'll be fine. I've flown in the past with expired IDs, no photos, etc and it's up to TSA how much they want to search into things. Often times, it's just a quick pat-down and bomb-residue testing to your bags. Only at the major airports (DCA, ORD, DFW, LAX, JFK) might they open your bags, look through, etc.
