The only thing I remember was the wally world that had just opened. We literally lived in the sticks.
And there are some local places near there, but that means you actually have to leave the AR parking lot. I know the traffic nightmare in that area makes that idea not so appealing most times, but...
Yep. To get non-chain stuff in the 10/1604 area you have to drive up to Boerne or inside 1604. Even once you get there you aren't going to find it in the main area like Fiesta Trails or whatever.

Do research, search by zipcode, look on facebook, check twitter for neighborhood places. Ask neighbors where they go. It's not as hard as some people think!

Gift Card Exchange - Buy, Sell, and Trade Gift Cards Online | Cardpool
Gift Card Exchange - Buy, Sell, Swap - Free Shipping - Plastic Jungle
Discounted Gift Cards | Buy or Sell Gift Cards - Swapagift.com

Lots more out there. Just google and figure out which service works best for you. No need anymore to suffer through bad gift card gifts

Good to know! I usually just re-gift the cards to people whom I know like such places.

It shouldn't surprise you that are comprised almost entirely of generic, mass-produced homes are in close proximity to generic, mass-produced restaurants.

I know that with work, most people say chilli's because there is always a picky eater in the house and they can find something on the Chilli's menu. Same person could find something to choose from on a local menu. Who knows? I have the same conundrum with co workers.
Most of my family is from Hondo and Castroville area -Medina County-

I grew up near Tarpley, outside of Hondo.

As long the locals think these chain restaurants are to dive for, it will always be that way. It starts with a different set of mentality in order to push demand for non-chain restaurants.

Speaking of eateries in the Alamo Ranch area.. I'm curious of one further out on FM 471 (Culebra). Has anyone ever tried Stumps, which is right past us (Kallison Ranch).

I can understand the chain food establishment popularity.....Folks always know what to expect. I've been to many Family Owned local places which is somtimes a roll of the dice.

Is Stumps that hamburger place near Geronimo Airpark?

Edit: nevermind, yes, I used to eat there while taking flight lessons at that airstrip across the street. It was a hamburger place, but maybe they served steak and I never knew. It was alright, nothing to write home about. This is a good case of a chain being better than a mom-and-pop place like Stumps. Haven't been there in about a year, so maybe they have changed ownership/menu, etc.
