Southtown/Downtown. It's artsy, funky, has some of the city's best eateries and live music venues and probably attracts the most diversity in who lives in the area. I'd recommend speaking with a downtown specialist who we've all recommended here repeatedly. I can't give names in this post, but PM me and I'll share her info.

Oh, that isn't true (about the medical center area). I live three miles away in a great neighborhood. It has neither constant traffic nor bland apartment complexes. What it does have is a great mid-century vibe, quiet streets, and big, big trees. Wurzbach and I10 would be maybe a 20 minute commute, if that.

I agree with you 100% about Southtown/downtown. I also agree with others who suggested Mahncke Park/Monte Vista/Alamo Heights.

In before FCF?

IMO commuting to that area from downtown would be a bit excessive, depending largely upon how far the place is from a freeway entrance or exit.

It's really not that bad, probably 20-25 minutes tops from the Woodlawn (the northern most of the aforementioned) area depending on the time of day. If I remember correctly Rackpace is a bit off the beaten path but not too far off Wurzbach..maybe 1-2 lights near Mama Margie's. You'd probably have more trouble heading south from 1604 toward Wurzbach in morning rush hour with there only being 3 lanes. At least heading from downtown you have the extra lanes.

No worries about him any longer, should be taken care of.

This guy coming to Rackspace should be able to rent a home around the area nearby without worrying about the apartments in the Medical center.

20 minutes. You're going against traffic the whole way, and Rackspace is near the highway, so probably even less than that (Wurzbach exit, do the turn around and turn down Console, you don't have to go through the light at the interchange). I used to commute to Med Center and it was rarely more than 20 minutes, and a bit further off the highway than Rackspace - 5-10 minutes of that was just the surface roads in the Med Center. Colleagues who lived less than 1/2 the distance that I did had at least as long of a commute, due to med center traffic. It's not biking distance but I'm not sure I'd want to cycle anywhere there. There are apartments very close to Rackspace, but they're pretty awful, IMO.

All that said, downtown/southtown draws a slightly older age group than the college crowd you'll find at many Med Center bars. But by older it's not much (late 20s to start, up to retirees ).

I dunno if the possibility of your position will be moved but a large part of Rackspace's workforce in SA is at the Walzem location in the NE side of SA. You may want to clarify this part if you haven't done so already so you can have a good plan as far as housing is concerned.
Best to you!
