I am moving to the San Antonio area this summer. I want to find the perfect small town. I'm not sure it exists, but I'd like to try.
I'd love to be in a town that is right on a river, with a downtown square, and good schools. I want to be able to walk everywhere, so the smaller, the better. I would like to be between SA and Austin, but since I won't be commuting, I don't need to be closer to one than the other. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-a...index-san.html should help. Although NB is probably your best bet.

Wimberley....although not sure about the schools.

I would not consider San Marcos or New Braunfels a small town anymore....the rate at which they are growing is crazy!

You may find a place where you can walk to a store or two, but really, anywhere in Texas or in the area you are considering, you will really need to drive.

nothing along 35 fits that bill anymore. I'd say you have to settle for being closer to 1 or the other city to get what you want. Maybe Blanco or Marble Falls would be great fits? Llano might also work.

San Antonio, New B and San M are growing into a linear city. You have to get way off 35 for small town living - and that's not for long.

New Braunfels can still fit the bill - but the trick will be finding the residence. There are a number of 'em within a few blocks of downtown, and there is still a Handy Andy on San Antonio street just a bit down from the main square (maybe 8-10 blocks?).

Marble Falls sounds great to me, but the problem with it is it's rather far away from the urbanized areas when you want to visit them.

Or maybe that's a plus for you, haha!
