San Antonio Magazine

Does anyone else subscribe to this? I have since it started and it's nice to see SA get its own glossy mag dedicated to keeping up with what's new and what's on the horizon. While some of their articles read simply like sponsored write-ups for their full-page advertisers, I think they're doing a good job staying ahead of the curve (for a monthly), including some interesting eateries.

In their latest issue, they go wild on what's 'best' in SA restaurants. I was killer excited to see that El Bucandero made the list and got a special write-up as well. That place just plain rocks.

We have it. It was a free subscription. It's kind of fun (esp when my friends' houses are featured ;-)), but it does seem like the articles reflect the sponsorship.

Honestly we wouldn't pay for it, but then we don't pay for any magazines. The only subscriptions we get are the "free" ones (mostly from airline miles we don't use anymore).

I first saw it in a doctor's office a few months ago. I subscribed because, as stated, it seems to focus on sponsors. It like it because it's got articles about places and people I know (sometimes) and it's nice to see a glossy city mag that is apparently up and coming.

Same, it comes free and I have no clue how that happened. It would probably appeal to me more if I were truly interested in the content, but I'm not. Good restaurant listings though.

Chaka are your friends the folks down on Lavaca/Indianola? Swanky digs.

I think they are trying to follow the “D Magazine” as in Dallas but D is much different.

I used to get this magazine, but let it lapse. Glossy spreads about upscale real estate grew tiresome after a few years.

I got a copy in the mail the other day, with a year's free subscription. It seems like a nice mag but as Chaka said focused on the advertisers. Still, I signed up just to see if it's worth it. It's definitely a professional-looking effort; but also like Chaka I usually don't pay for periodicals.

I've seen it, it's a terrible magazine. People and property pay to have themselves featured in there.

S.A. Scene magazine is pretty fun to thumb through.

Useless trivia fact: Gah their offices are tiny.

Personally I find the SA Current to be more informative as to the happenings in this town!

But as long as SA Mag has nice pics of the city and recommendations for places to eat and things to do, we'll continue accepting the free subscription!

Cheers! M2
