Dog digs up remains of Santa Anna on Alamo grounds

April 1, 2011, San Antonio,TX

By I. K. Chisme

Native San Antonian Rick Melendrez this morning was walking his dog "Dejjers" at the break of dawn near the front of the Alamo chapel grounds when all of a sudden his dog went ballistic. "Dejjers" started sniffing excitedly and began digging right across from the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" museum. The 14 year old Britanny Spaniel mixed pooch did not stop digging till he uncovered what looks like an old wooden leg.

The wooden leg bore an engraved trademark, "Piernas De Madera Son Nosotros" ("Wooden Legs R' Us") with a date of 1836 and a hand carved inscription; "Propiedad De SA, Con/Safo." The peg leg is believed to have belonged to Mexican President and Dictator General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna De La O. For some reason it may have been lost or misplaced during the historic 1836 Battle of the Alamo.

Since the stub was found on public property and not on DRT temporary borrowed grounds, Melendrez considers it is finders keepers for the Dejjer Dog. Santy Annie's loss is Dejjers gain.

Remember the LoLamo!

Despite the fact that Santa Anna lost his leg after the Battle of the Alamo during the Mexican-American War there used to be toy companies that made Santa Anna legs for children to play with. If the news story in the OP was true I think the dog would have been violating federal law that disallows digging at the Alamo?

Default Con Safos ?

A great archeological find. Very good, I certainly would contact The Daughters, however.
