I think quite the opposite...the Legislature would not dip as deeply into the rainy day fund as was hoped...now, districts will begin to make allocations for next year. Employees will probably begin receiving notice soon...

Oh, I don't think it's dying down at all. As pobre said, I think it's just now heating up - the districts just recently got their budget information from the state, so I think the cuts are coming soon.

I was surprised they dipped into the Rainy Day Fund, but it's only to pay the bills until August.

Cuts are coming. I have been hearing that next week is when they will begin with NISD. I know some other districts have started.

Anyone here from NEISD? I haven't heard of anyone being notified of being laid off yet and it's April already.

The latest article I see about NEISD is from March 19. NEISD is planning on cutting $50-85 million, but the article doesn't say how.

I believe some school districts can go without their police forces. SAPD is desperate for more recruits though. Hopefully an extra burden won't be put on them by having to cover schools too. Maybe the laid off school district police officers will join them.
