This project started in 2006 and is a public/private partnership between the City and Haven For Hope, the non-profit that is raising the money to build and will run the shelter. While San Digeo and Phoenix were visited as best practice models for this campus neither is as comprehensive as Haven for Hope will be.

The goals is for this to be a one-stop-shop for all services a homeless, near homeless, paycheck-to-paycheck individual or family would need. Medical, dental, vison, job training, substance abuse, domestic abuse, counseling, clothing, food, childcare, etc. all available on one campus. Almost all of these services will be open to the community as well, especially the job training, and medical services; you won't have to "homeless" to get help there. Families will be able to be housed together and children will have a safe place to learn and play. It really will be a national model for providing homeless services.

Nice comments every one! Just want to add that ONE OUT OF THREE homeless men in America are VETERANS.

Yes, 1 out of 3. This is the kind of treatment they receive after they've served our country.

Many of the homeless are FAMILIES as well.

I hope that more businesses will do more charity events and things like cook meals for the needy and donate clothing and basic essentials.
