I am going to be moving to the Medical Center for 6 months and I am having a hard time finding an apartment building online that doesn't have HORRIBLE reviews from the current or past tenants. Does anyone have any places that are nice? Since I am going for only 6 months I am willing to pay a little more than usual since I am a girl and I want to feel safe and be able enjoy my time there!

Also, this is sort of unrelated, but is is common for people to have the occasional or regular cockroach in your apartment down there? I am new to the south and this sort of horrifies me, haha!

Thanks for any tips!

I have sent you a DM with an apartment name. I will assure you I do not rent or otherwise negotiate fees for apartments. I had an opportunity to get above/beyond the critiques and see a few for myself. The one I provide is a good one. I wish you the best.

Cockroaches are normal here, especially in apartments. I lived in seven different apartments here before I bought my house, and in every apartment I had, I saw occasional cockroaches, some bigger than others. The biggest ones were probably two and a half inches long. I've also had rats and mice and a black widow spider.

I think there are lots of bad reviews at every apartment complex here. If you try to find one with no bad reviews, its almost impossible to find anywhere to live. You can look at the police reports on mysanantonio.com for the block that the complex is in to see what kind of things happen around there. The most common crimes in apartments are car burglaries.

Get renter's insurance...you'll be glad you did, and it's really inexpensive.

Dont worry about online reviews...remember human beings only come online to complain not to give praise. so for the 100 bad reviews, there might be 10,000 good ones but the satisfied people never go out of their way to tell people about it.

I live at promontory pointe in the med center, been a year now, dont have any complaints. I'm happy enough here that end of may when my lease is up, i'll be staying right where i am, but i will be going to a 2 bed, 2 bath vs the 1 bed 1 bath im in now because we just had a baby and could use the extra space.

I lived at Wolfe Run several years ago. It was nice then. Don't see why it should have changed much. Located on Cinnamon Creek/Hamilton-Wolfe, near Fred Rd.

Default thanks!

Thank you guys for the tips! I am going to come down in a few weekends to check out the city before I move and look at some apartments! I will definitely put those two on my list.

I guess I will have to build up some bug killer instincts in the mean time haha. Thanks again!

I've lived at the Enclave at Buckhorn Crossing (Babcock and Prue Rd) and it's been a good place to live. The management and maintenance staff are great and it's about 3 miles from University Hospital.

Haven at Blanco is expensive but nice. There weren't any bugs, but then I happened to see a spider that looked very suspiciously like a brown recluse climbing up my bedroom wall...

There are a bunch of apartment complexes off of DeZavala, a little east of I-10 that seem to be nice. I have a coworker who lives over there and likes it.

Most of the reviews you read are written by people who have never lived in apartments and think it should be like the atmosphere in mom and dad’s home. Others are from tenants who exaggerate or lie to get revenge on the property owner. Sometimes you have to just go with complexes with the fewest negative comments. Check the complex’s reputation with the Austin BBB. I as well do not tolerate roaches and was concerned about that when I moved to San Antonio. I don’t have them in the apartment I live in nor did I see any in the units I looked at before deciding where to rent.
