Transguide messages that call out talking while driving? (Dallas, San Antonio: live, law)

The city has a fairly new ordinance against texting while driving. And I distinctly remember that while making the new law the council quite deliberately exempted talking while driving, to avoid incurring the wrath of the wireless industry. Now that there is a campaign against talking (presumably on the phone, but the message is not specific) while driving, I wonder if this means the council might go back and add talking (on the phone) to the law that lists prohibited activities while driving in the city?

FTR, although I did object to not being allowed to text while stopped at a red light, I don't have any objection to a talking provision. I would have preferred it be included in the first place. Many is the time I've seen distracted drivers talking on their phones around town and driving either erratically or too slowly.

Yep. I saw that when getting on 410 from 10 heading east. I was like "I didn't know there was a law against talking and driving..." not that I do it or anything...but...

I'm all for it. I hate talking on my phone while driving and only do it when I have to. Most of the time, if I'm behind an idiot driver, I can pull up to the side and guaranteed about 90% of the time it's a woman in an SUV chatting on her phone and driving like a moron.

Thanks. I bet you're right. We had anti-DWI messages that referred to Fiesta on the Transguide signs the last 2 weeks, so I was guessing the new messages were also specific to San Antonio.

I wonder what AT&T, which recently moved its headquarters to Dallas and is the nation's #2 wireless provider, thinks of this new statewide campaign discouraging mobile use of wireless products.

Have you seen their no-texting campaign? It's pretty powerful.

I was going to start a thread about this, but I couldn't remember what the darn signs were called...
Regardless, if they start heading down this road, then the po-po better put their phones away too.

I live downtown by the station and I followed one all the way from the station to the medical center, and she was yapping on her phone driving with one hand the whole way.

I'm glad no one has ever crashed reading the text on a rotating message board, only a cell phone, otherwise I would suggest this program is misguided, if not ironic.

LOL, yes! And those darn light up advertisements like Sonic has, the back seat TV screens that can be clearly seen from rearview windows, the application of make up, eating etc. etc.
