This is our first full year in the house so the first year we could apply for the homestead exemption. I saw the info on the form about the 10%...but wasn't sure if it applied because last year we didn't have the homestead exemption.

Looking at the form, the assessed value and the appraised value listed for my house are the same.

None of the other houses on our street increased this year, everyone seemed to be down a very small amount.

It also says we have a wood deck that we don't have...all I have in the back yard is an itty bitty concrete slab big enough for the dog and doghouse...maybe from above the dog and doghouse looked like a wood deck

How does the square footage listed for the non-existent deck compare to the small slab you have? Is it about the same? Is there a separate listing for the slab? If not, they may have the slab incorrectly classified as a deck (but it probably wouldn't significantly alter the appraised value). Or was there previously a deck that somebody tore out?

I can't imagine aerial photos being much help when assessing improvements to property. About all I can see of my property is a bunch of tree cover, with a little bit of the main house roof & driveway visible. How do they measure square footage through all of that tree cover? Can't see my patio, or anything else, for that matter.

They've got the square footage right...can you imagine a 15 square foot wooden deck? I doubt it will change anything, but I wonder how they came up with it. My house was built last year so I know there's never been a deck.
