Suddenly, there is hope for Trader Joe dropping anchor in San Antonio. At least he'll be in Austin in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the hope, Bo, I just fired off another request to Trader Joe's to come here. I was pretty insulted last night when I was watching the Detroit Tigers/Yankees game last night for a minute to see that Trader Joe's is in Detroit. They had a big banner on the outfield wall. There's so much demand here, I really am amazed that they are still not here.

Who cares about those...We all miss Handy Andy and Centeno.

If you do some research, Centeno supermarkets successfully sued HEB for something called Predatory Pricing.

I think trader joes will bring healthy competition, hopefully HEB will feel some pressure on the specialty items and increase those lines in their stores. Central Market & Alon Market already do a good job.

I think Trader Joe's will be a competitor with our local Whole Foods.

Default Article from 5/3/11: Trader Joe's planned for Dallas, Houston, and Austin.

First Dallas Trader Joe’s will open by the end of 2011 - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_localpn/20110503/ts_yblog_localpn/first-dallas-trader-joes-will-open-by-the-end-of-2011 - broken link)

"After years of speculation, Trader Joe's is finally coming to Dallas, with a plan to open multiple locations in the big three: Dallas, Austin, and Houston.

According to a Dallas Morning News story, which is behind a paywall, the initial rollout will include 10 stores in Texas, and the first store in Dallas will open within the year; they're looking at both inside the city limits and suburbs."

Sooooo.....there you go. No San Antonio. It's official.

Maybe that will change in a year or two.

Someone needs to point out to these people that in Texas, the big three needs to include San Antonio, considering that we are #7 in the US...

The slight might mean that Trader Joe's doesn't believe there are enough potential customers in SA.

Or it could be that traffic congestion on I-35 in Austin is so impenetrable that there's no way a Trader Joe's delivery truck could possibly make it south of there to keep a store here stocked.

That is exactly what it means. I can't imagine that will be for long, but right now I can understand it.
