Exactly, it is not the police who aren't arresting drunks driving; it's the courts that isn't imposing the maximum penalty on them!

During my ride-along a few months ago I saw how many DUI/DWIs had been booked that day at the courthouse early on a Saturday afternoon, so obviously the cops are out there hauling them in to the best of their ability. If the judges turn around and cut them loose, how can you blame the police for that?!?

Why bother arresting drunks and criminals when there's plenty God fearing, hard working people gowing 68 mph on 410 on their way to and from work you can pull over? Hey, at least it's easy revenue for the city, right? Ever watch Cold Case? How many take place in SA due to incompetence?

Ummm, if those "God fearing, hard working people" are speeding, then they need to be pulled over! If they're breaking the law, they're "criminals" as well! What makes them an exception?

But anyone who has driven on 410 knows that despite what a few claim, traffic enforcement and especially speeding is not something most drivers have to worry about in San Antonio. If there is any criticism of the law enforcement agencies around here, it is that they're not stricter in this regard.

People drive horribly here, but acting like the SAPD is constantly cracking down on them is ridiculous. People who claim to be victims of "speed traps" know the truth is they are just unfortunate in being caught doing something illegal that they probably do all the time. There is no "entrapment," there is simply the law and those who get caught breaking it--to include "God fearing, hard working people"--deserve what they get!

As per your statement on the thread titled "speed trap"

Are you a criminal? 65 is only 3mph slower than 68. Regardless it's still OVER the posted speed limit, therefore breaking the law.

If I am caught going 3-5 MPH over the limit, I accept responsibility for it and don't blame the police for enforcing the law nor would I make accusations of "speed traps" unlike a few on this forum.

By the way, the speed limit on 410 north of Highway 90 until it hits IH-10 East is 60 MPH; and 70 on the southern part of the loop...

So someone is either 8 MPH over the limit or 2 MPH under it. I doubt the latter is a ticket-able offense...

As long as you put yourself in the same group of "criminals", then all is well. By your comments probably 95% of the driving population are criminals. Scary thought, I knew the little old lady across the street who has a heavy foot was hiding a seedy background.

I've been pulled over for going 68mph on I-35 (the posted speed limit was 65mph) by Selma PD. So it's possible. I was leaving a friends house in the early AM hours and changed lanes on an open highway without signaling, which he cited as another reason for stopping me. Initially he asked if I knew the speed limit and I told him 65, then he said "well did you know you were going 68?" I was pretty puzzled and knew it was going to be one of those stops. He asked if I had been drinking, which I had not been. I just woke up and was very groggy, but very much awake. He saw some beef jerky of all things in a ziploc baggy in my glove compartment and was quick with the flashlight to ask if I smoked weed. I laughed and told him no, because I knew he was just itching for an arrest. He asked me to grab the bag for him and he opened and smelled it...much to his surprise, beef jerky. He let me go with a "warning" about my speed and lane change. Incidentally I got a ticket because my DL was not up to date with my current address. A waste of both our time, but the city of Selma ended up 35.00 richer.

Criminal (crim·i·nal) /ˈkrimənl/ Noun: A person who has committed a crime.

The law requires you to update the address on your drivers license within 30 days after moving.

You failed to obey the law and got caught, how is that a "waste of time?"

I guess you're right, we are ALL just a bunch of criminals running around. So long as you own up to the fact you are just as bad as the rest of us (breaking laws)...and far from sanctimonious. Thing is your speeding can kill...which you like to remind other folks, my failure to change address isn't.

Cheers!

Lol
