It's pretty at night with the sunset near 1604.
I like their menu + the idea of sunset. They have a children's menu, do a lot of families go there?

Don't sell your kids' palates short! My kids' palates have grown more adventurous from eating at restaurants like these. The last time we went to Frederick's Bistro, one of them ordered duck and the other one ordered Osso Buco.

IMO, the dress-up aspect of this request is the biggest challenge. San Antonio is a very casual city. Most of the expensive restaurants here aren't dressy by default.

I went during the evening during the week, it was quiet with some quiet families. Not kids running around or anything, though.

Yes! Not to hijack but this is something I have noticed as someone relatively new to SA.

The usual attire seems to be t-shirts, sports shoes and either shorts or jeans. It is unusual to see anyone with even a button down shirt and semi-dress pants.

Formal dress is overrated, be comfy... enjoy the surroundings & food!

I love getting dressed nicely to head out to dinner. I know this may be a bit out of price range but I enjoy ...

Morton's

This is where my hubby and I go to for special occasions or even for happy hour to enjoy a cocktails and a few of their HH specials. They have a meal that two can eat for $110 + tip.

The idea of going someone special for a nice dinner is to make it an event and if you dress in your everyday clothes then it isn't anything special/memorable.

I'll second the Grey Moss Inn - one of my favorites! In fact, I prefer it over The Vineyards in all respects. I just figured everyone knew about GMI - my bad!!!!

^^^ This ^^^

Scuzzis Italian Inn seems to have the best menu I think they'd like, son does not like steak . Their favorite restaurant is Olive Garden, just would like to take it up a notch or so & make it memorable & special.
Open to all suggestions though (dh & I would love any of those mentioned).
