Default Bakeries

The Gunter Hotel downtown on Houston street has an awesome bakery.

La Madeleines restaruants have WONDERFUL and authentic French pasteries, breads and baked goods.

Joseph's on Mulberry and 281 is a mom and pop wonderful bakery.

Entree's on McCullough also has great bakery goods.

Also....Central Market and Whole Foods have good fresh baked goods daily. (I'm
not too keen on their cakes and Deserts)

Mi Tierra's Mexican Restaraunt is famous for their Mexican sweets. Very different from most baked goods....but very popular.

LE CAKE....on Olmos Drive near the Olmos Circle is the BEST Place in town for special order cakes for any occasion. The do cupcakes, petit fors, wedding, birthday.....and if you drop in and are lucky you can get yesterday's cupcakes for about .50 to a $1 a piece. Warning.......this cake is soooo rich....pure butter cream icing......slice it thin and go back for seconds if you can handle it! PURE YUM!

Also.....we have a rich German Heritage all through out this part of Texas....in addition to what SA has, lots of the little towns around SA have German bakeries with all kinds of goodies.....Castroville, Boerne, New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Kerrville......and I'm sure plenty of others that I can't think of!

Just as an FYI, many of the Gold's Gyms are 24 hours on weekdays. They are closed during the overnight hours on weekends.

I am so looking forward to the Jamba coming to town. I emailed them about a year ago to ask if they were coming back--they replied--NO. Then I started reading on this forum that they are returning, so I emailed them again recently. Guess what? They still said--NO! It's possible they may not want to discuss it until the store is open--or maybe I got the new person in the office who was clueless. I am also looking forward to Trader Joe's. I am an SA native, but did live in SoCal for 2 years in the late 90's and I LOVED this place.

I like Nadler's for special cakes, but have never had the opportunity to buy other things they make.

BTW, this is a great forum--I am happy I found it--you guys teach me so much! )

I've been to Panda Express a couple of times, but have been unimpressed with the food. Many of the one-off Chinese take-out places are even better than Panda Express.

I'm wondering why anyone would want to go to 24-Hour Fitness! That place bites! I was a member and the gyms closest to me had shoddy equipment and the locker rooms/showers were downright nasty! I mean, honestly, would you want to use a shower with hair in the drain and mold on the curtains?

Just thought I'd correct something. Federated Department Stores is the owner of Macy's Department Stores. In 2006, Federated bought May Company, which owned Foley's, Hecht's, and many other regional department stores.
