I am searching for bookstores that specializes in San Antonio history, Texas history and Catholicism. Also a economical used bookstore.

Better yet, what is the best bookstore in San Antonio.

Gracias!

Although they don't specialize in rare books, the great exchange is a wonderful local used bookstore. They have locations on Walzem and Austin Highway, and others but I don't know where they are.

Is Cheevers the bookstore right next to Half Price books on Broadway? Can anyone recommend a good book on the history of San Antonio?

There are numerous books that have been revised, edited and compiled by Ted Fahrenbach. Any of them are pretty comprehensive. There is a nice coffee table book called "San Antonio, Then and Now" that was published recently. They initially flew off the shelves, but I've seen them at Sam's for about $10 in the last year. I have a nice collection of books on SA, and there isn't just one book that covers it all. The Conservation Society has put together a very nice book on homes, buildings, places and landmarks. It's a nice "evolution" of the city. There are also books on Ft Sam Houston Army Post....or the "military" in SA....or the Alamo...and on and on. I'm a local/regional history junkie....so I like to grab what I can.

Also try the bookstore at the Alamo or any of the Missions.

Most of my books are boxed up right now, otherwise I'd be happy to give you more authors and titles. I keep my eye out for anything historical.....find some interesting things in the least likely places!
