I notice a particular odor in the air driving on 1604 in between Bandera and Babcock, and the same odor driving both on I-10 in between the Rim and Boerne. It's pretty stinky. Anyone know what it is? I'm assuming the two odors are coming from the same source in the NW area (but, ah, not from me, lol).

Can you describe the stinky stank? Like, death, fire, old food, or shattered dreams?

Sorry....I left my sneakers outside after a walk. Won't happen again.

Hahaha! Yes, it smells like a port-a-potty after a taco festival.

Actually, it smells a little sulfuric but not acutely. It's a "we all look at each other in the car" kind of smell. I would say to DH, "Yikes." and he would reply, "is that one of our kids?" ...but we figured out it wasn't the kids because it was happening in the same spots. I go to the Rim about 3 times a week and Boerne once a week so I kinda notice these things.

It sounds like a sewage treatment plant, if I had to guess. I worked for a sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure company in Baton Rouge for a few years and have grown used to that odor. My buddy and old co-worker still will drive by and get that nasty smell and go "mmmmmm.... smells like money," and people look at us all crazy-like. hahaha

There is an odor like that on the access road at highway 90 and 1604. I thought it might be the septic system for the military bases out there.

Hmmm... That's weird... I live out I-10, towards Boerne, and haven't noticed a weird smell at all... I was just at La Cantera about 6 days ago and at The Rim 2 days ago, but still didn't smell anything...

Of course we have lived out here going on 3 years, so maybe we are used to the stank??? LoL

I dunno. It's definitely there though! Just a patch about 1/4-1/2 mile long on both roads. Odd. Now I will say this: I am going in the mornings. Maybe that has something to do with it? Hrm.

We were at Kuhl, in Boerne, last week and instead of eating inside we walked out and down Main Street a bit and sat down on a couple of benches... There was definately a smell there... It smelled like something had died... Of course this has nothing to do with the smell on the highway, but there was no mistaking it...

We are going to Fiesta Texas on Tuesday, I will keep my nose to the wind for any strange smells...

I experienced the same thing today. Hubby and I went to Costco and on that same stretch of highway that you mentioned, we looked at each other and said " it wasn't me!"
