Hello,
I am relocating to San Antonio in the next few weeks and am hoping someone can give me a straight answer on the traffic coming into San Antonio. I have two small children and was set on living in New Braunfels because of the great schools and activities that go on in the city.

I am reconsidering because i heard traffic is a nightmare-i would commute in around 630 am, and leave between 430-5 pm. Can anyone tell me how long this will take and if there is a back way? I have heard 45 minutes on average.

If this is the case, can anyone give me advice on where to look in San Antonio? I have been told the Northwest side is great, but traffic is awful. Are there other areas that are safe, have good schools, and are relatively close so I could have no more than a 25 minute commute?

I appreciate any help!!!!

At that time of day it shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes. Rush hour it could be anywhere from 35 to an hour because you will be dealing with traffic going/headed to 410 and then 1604.

There are areas closer to there that are nice. Depending on your budget check out the Alamo Heights area and the more north central area near 281 between 410 and 1604 (not on 1604 but between the 2). You'll get nice NEISD schools but you won't have the horrid 1604 traffic.

Windcrest could be okay but I haven't heard the best things about the schools. That's the area you'll actually be working in. If you look in that area, look in Windcrest proper, not areas surrounding it.

The northwest side is nice, but even without traffic if you choose the newer areas of the northwest side (Alamo Ranch) it could take you 30 minutes without traffic to get to Fourwinds. With traffic it could take an hour and a half. Traffic can back up on 35 and then again on 410 near Culebra.

And take in everyone's opinion equally. FCF has a consistent bad opinion on everything San Antonio.

Hope this helps and good luck on your move!

I really appreciate the info., I heard Stone Oak is also a good place to look. I figured traffic would be just as much a problem going from the east side of the city to the west.

I'm excited to get up to San Antonio already (been down here in the Valley for four years now).
thank you again

It would be silly to not just live in Windcrest. Perfectly nice place to live, small town with it's own police force and fire department. Windcrest Elementary is fine, the high school has just been rebuilt. No need to look elsewhere.
