Default moving info

Hi,

I'm a social studies teacher in NJ, and my family is looking to relocte in a year. My wife will be a registered nurse then and I want to move to a place that would be a good place to raise a 3 year old little boy. How are teaching and nursing jobs in San Antonio? What areas have affordable houses and decent schools? Any info would be great. I have 8 years teaching ,so I qualify for a permanent certification

have you seen jersey drivers?

seriously though, the state has just cut our education budget tremendously and all school districts here are making major cuts. This is not the best time to be looking for a teaching job in Texas. Would recommend NEISD to send your kiddo....excellent school district...and the far north side of SA to live, believe the best area is....wait for it.....stone oak of course!

There is no such thing as a perm. certification for Texas. You will have to test and get your certification the old fashioned way. This is a horrible time to find a teaching job with that said. I know most of the major ones are on a hiring freeze for another year and more than likely will be the following year due to budget cuts. You might get lucky with a smaller district but it would be just luck. Even smaller ones are facing cuts and some of the "middle" sized have had to let teachers go as well. Just be prepared to either sub or work in another job during this process just in case because that very will be what it comes down to. Not trying to be a debbie downer but just being honest with you.

Nursing jobs are plentiful and good paying. Teaching jobs are almost non-exsistant. Maybe check with private schools to see if there are needs. The current teachers in San Antonio who have been cut will probably beat you to it.
Other than that, San Antonio continues to grow and have needs for teachers and certainly nurses.

Initially I was going to jump in about the lack of teaching jobs, however, there are 3 schools out in my area due to open in the next year or two. I also know my son's teacher last year was hired 8 weeks into the year and she was returning to teaching after years off with her kids so wasn't a displaced teacher--she kept her job at Stone Oak for next year as well. Apparently after they made teachers move to the 2 new schools more kids enrolled then expected. The way this area is growing it might happen again with those 3 new schools--2 elementary and one middle. I can second the recommendation for the Stone Oak schools. We love them and the Encino Park schools as well. I suspect the new schools will also be excellent.

As to the "dirtiness" of SA, I don't find that it extends to all areas. I think Stone Oak is pretty clean overall and while not the "Garden State" we do at least have some oaks up here in this part of town.
