Default Timberwood Park vs. Fair Oaks Ranch

Hi, I'm moving to San Antonio soon with my young daughter, and am looking at the Timberwood Park and Fair Oaks ranch areas. I have checked the hard facts (demographics, location, etc.), but was hoping that I could get more information on the feel of the areas, such as schools, shopping, restaurants, hospitals, access to S.A. and any other input or advice that anyone could offer, as well as any other good areas to consider. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've never been out to Timberwood Park, but I looked it up online. It looks nice with good intentions. I would guess it is a major headache to get into town. Schools are probably pretty good.

Fair Oaks is right on I-10 and you can be downtown in 30 minutes without traffic, but you don't need to go far to get essentials as Leon Springs and Boerne have lots of shops and restaurants. Boerne ISD has arguably the best schools in the area. Boerne is right down the road and is a quaint Hill Country town that is nice to visit.

Someone else may be more help with Timberwood Park.

Good Luck

I live close to the Timberwood Park area and i would probably choose Fair Oaks Ranch. The traffic in the morning to get into SA is ridiculous down 281. Im not completely sure how it is down i10 but it cant get much worse.

I live in Timberwood. As far as scenery, Fair Oaks wins hands down. Lots of huge oaks and wide open spaces. Both areas have a good mix of older and newer homes. In Timberwood, you are typically pretty close to your neighbors house. Fair Oaks is a little more spread out.

As someone mentioned, traffic is horrible going down Blanco to 1604 in the am/pm rush hours. They are going to be widening Blanco Rd which should help considerably but how long is it going to take is the question. haha. Timeberwood is in a pretty good location whereas Fair Oaks is a bit to far outta of SA for my liking.

Most of Timberwood Park goes to Comal County schools and not SA. You are technically in San Antonio but pay Comal taxes which are cheaper then SA. Fair Oaks likely pays Kendall County which is pretty high.

Thank you all so much for the help with this question. That's just another reason why we love Texas, is the friendly people. Your kindness in responding is most appreciated, and will be a great help to us. We're on our way out to look around next week, and can't wait see the areas in person. Any opinions about adding Boerne to the list ? I was wondering if the Fair Oaks Ranch schools are very far away because they are in Boerne ISD?

Fair Oaks attends Boerne High School. I'm fairly certain they have an elementary school in Fair Oaks. Jr. High, I'm sure they probably go to Boerne as well.

Definitely take a look at Boerne. It's a great town but growing rapidly! My parents and bro/sis all live in Boerne and absolutely love it there. I'm more of a city kid so I moved to SA to be closer to everything.

Thanks so much ! I can't wait to see the towns, and get the feel for each. We've heard that Boerne is consistantly rated one of the best places to live in the States. My only concern is that we're able to reach all of the great restaurants and shopping that you have in S.A. - kinda like you said. We're definitely accustomed to that (who wouldn't enjoy S.A. food?). We'll follow your advice, though, and check it out - it sounds great! Again, I really do thank you for your help. It's truly appreciated.

I am a recent transplant to Fair Oaks Ranch (about a month) and absolutely love it. We are close enough to SA and Boerne to enjoy both, but are not right up in the middle of things. The views are absolutely beautiful and so for, we've only had friendly contacts with everyone.

For taxes, the northern part of Fair Oaks Ranch is in Kendall county and the southern part in Bexar county. There is a homeowner's association, which I like, to keep everyone in check with what they can and can't do property wise. And a country club that has a couple of different options for joining. So if you don't play golf but want the kids to swim, you don't have to pay golf.

No kids, so I can't help you there.

Good luck!

From Boerne to downtown SA is roughly 45 minutes, to 1604 roughly 25 minutes. Most of the people in Fair Oaks who work commute to SA. I-10 is a very good highway all the way to 410.
