My central AC unit no longer works. Any suggestions who to go with or brands here in San Antonio for the best price?

Check with CPS online, they have a list of units that get rebates
Central Air Conditioning, Window Air Unit and Heat Pump Rebates
Don't forget the Peak Saver Thermostats - they are awesome, and you can monitor them online.

We had a conversation? What did we discuss? And I did search, I put it in the search field and I received two pages of info on AC, in homes and cars and in all different states. Did we discuss this as well?

When searching, you should select advanced search, check threads, and select San Antonio from the drop-down search in forum(s). Otherwise you get a whole bunch of worthless pages from all over the world..

and whatever you do, don't buy a Goodman! That's what came with my house and I've had the outside coil replaced once and the inside at least 6 times. Luckily they talked me into the extended warranty, which I rarely ever buy. They then tried to buy it back from me for about 5x what I paid for it because it was killing them, but I broke their heart (and wallet)..

I just bought a portable air conditioner last Wednesday online. Got it for $196.99 at newegg.com.

It's an 8,000 BTU air conditioner; I got it today from UPS and it takes about 2 hours to comfortably cool my very large "bedroom efficiency" but it does cool it.

It's probably way too small for your place; maybe others are looking for a nice little portable one. The price did go up to $229.99 on Newegg.com but it still has free 3-day UPS shipping: Newegg.com - SOLEUS AIR KY-80 8,000 Cooling Capacity (BTU) Portable Air Conditioner

Also, in one of the pictures I attached, you can see that the current retail price at Sears for my unit is $299.99. I snapped that photo at Sears by Northstar Mall this past Sunday.

Note: I like the timer feature. You can set it to start the unit up automatically in 30 minute increments. I set it to start 2 hours before I get home from work that way it's nice and cool by the time I get home.

Flo-Aire Services, these guys did a great job replacing my old AC/Furnace...and bringing everything up to code. I had a 22 year old unit previously. I think pricing was fair, and the guys are very cool cats. They were personable, knowledgeable, and efficient.

B-Kool A/C & Heating. Great guys. I got my entire unit (plus duct work) for a great price.

If you want to know who not to use I had a terrible experience with an estimate if you would like the details, pm me.
