I'm originally from Jacksonville and can tell you that their NFL franchise (the Jags) which started in 1995 have done nothing for the city except drain millions of dollars from it. Attendance in 2009 was so bad that the city had to step in to bolster it, now they brag about it being up by 26% but considering the previous year's attendance averaged around 40,000 it is still far from being the numbers they need. And this in the 11th minor league franchise).

As far as obesity index it has some issues with obesity, but its a national epedemic not just a local one. Dallas has a higher obesity index and a higher poverty level and it has the Cowboys. So whats your point?
Austin and Houston have a comprable obesity index.

Agree with previous poster - just having an occasional F500 company in the city limits is not neccesarily "corporate presence" - club level tickets and luxury boxes are very much a business tool of mid-sized businesses involved in high-value clients within the same city area. You need a "critical mass" of these, something San Antonio definitely does not have. San Antonio remains economically driven by government employees, tourism and low-cost "white collar" work: no billionaire investor is going to see a negative return on his investment because he cannot sell tickets at league-average prices. The Spurs have difficulty selling out - are you going to give away 50,000 NFL tickets at HEB or Henry's Puffy Taco? Graduating classes at Lackland AFB?
You simply are not going to make an acceptable return in San Antonio - not compared to many other places. The economics and demographics are plainly are not there, they have a crappy old stadium they can't aford to replace, and lumping Austin into some bastardized pro-forma team base is desperate and the intellectual equivalent of lumping New York with Philadelphia. The league is not expanding. There is a gaping hole in LA for a team. San Antonio rates #3 behind Forth Worth for Cowboys ratings. If this makes you angry.... there's always the Texans!

San Antonio's income is still rising, maybe on a regional level the DFW and the Houston-Galveston area might be slightly higher. Those cities have a lot of F500 and much more than the average NFL city. When you compare San Antonio to metros more it's size 2-3 million people, San Antonio does not take a back seat. Versus the NFL cities such as Cleveland, Cincinatti, Kansas City and certainly not behind the even smaller NFL or MLB metros, nashville, Charlotte, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Buffalo.
if those cities can support another NFL or MLB so can San Antonio in a heartbeat.

Lol San Antonio is not a stupid city, and by far not a poor one. I've traveled all over the country and let me say I've seen more stupid and poverty elsewhere. San Antonio can support any team that comes in. I run a semi-Pro football league in Texas and San Antonio is by far the best city, as far as revenue and fan support go. We are on a smaller scale but we double in size every year!
