OK, CD-SA'ers, what does VIA stand for?

Not its principles or stuff like that, simply is "VIA" an acronym (it is all capitalized) or just a play on the word "via" (/ˈvīə/), a preposition meaning "traveling through (a place) en route to a destination: "they came to Europe via Turkey"?"

The VIA History web site offered no clues...

Cheers! M2

I've always suspected the name VIA was chosen because it has meaning in both English and Spanish. I don't speak enough Spanish to confirm that, but I suspect some fellow CDers might.

According to wiki, it's the Latin word for "road".

I didnt realize VIA was San Antonio only. As I watch a lot of hockey I always see a "VIA" logo painted on the ice in many arenas in Canada. Theirs is for VIA Rail Canada. The logos are so close as to make you believe that "VIA" is a worldwide corporation.

VIA Canada

VIA Metro

Wow, big resemblance. I bet there was some sort of copyright issue at one point.

Canada's came first. Story from a friend at VIA (San Antonio) is that they acquired rights from VIA Canada to use their logo down here. The "I" in the middle of the Canadian logo represents their train service (supposed to be railroad tracks).
