I just got hit by one of my most severe cravings in life: soft-shell crab. Are there any restaurants in town that make an especially good one?

Haven't found any.....I like them fresh and sauteed.
Lightly flour dusted and then sauteed in butter/oil mixture. If you find a place that does them like this let me know.
Went here,
www.groomers.com but did not have fresh ones in....I'll keep checking with them as they are an excellent source of all fresh seafood.

I agree with getgoing. Thats exactly how I make them only I add a little cayanne or old bay to the flour beofre dusting the crab. The only places Ive found around here that serve them always batter them and then deep fry them. What a waste of great shellfish. I think you just missed the season for fresh soft shell crabs. I'm originally from the east coast and the soft shell crab season ended in July. Anyway, next May try Central market. They may be overpriced, but they will be fresh and you should cook them yourself for the best flavor. Honestly, the whole process takes less than 15 minutes and is extremely easy.

oh my goodness...I do miss it...we used to get soft-shell crab sandwiches all the time in Galveston at Gaido's. Unreal!!
I know I shill for Pappadeaux all the time, but I know they do offer this, or at least they used to. It was good.
gingerale, the Gulf of Mexico yields tons of delicious soft-shell crab, year round, as far as I know. Don't need to worry about that here!

Get on Groomers mailing list. They announce when they get fresh live crabs in and they tipically arrive on Fridays and are gone by Saturday afternoon.

Japanese restaurants and Thai restaurants usually have some - probably frozen though. Spider rolls have a whole crab in them.
