Looking for a user friendly local bank
We have a great local bank here in Florida but moved our accounts to a large national bank because we move to SA in less than 2 weeks. The national bank has branches all over San Antonio. Their policies are ridiculously strict and they nickle and dime everything. They also have holds on all deposits including cash deposits etc. Why they have a 3 day hold on cash deposits is beyond me.
We're looking for a user friendly local bank in San Antonio but with enough branches to make it very convenient.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you are Military or otherwise eligible for USAA, I recommend them pretty highly. Only one branch, but online and telebanking are a breeze. Plus you get $15 in free ATM transactions monthly.

I have Compass Bank and have been satisfied with the service and the availablility of locations.
They now offer a new and unique service. If you incur ATM fees at another bank, Compass will credit your account with the amount you've incurred. There are some conditions. You have to submit your receipts, and if I recall correctly, they have to total a certain minimum amount before they will actually post the credit. That seems fair enough, though; otherwise they'd be posting stray little $2-$5 amounts all day every day, I'd think.
I have both checking and savings there. Have been offered their credit card, but OH GOD NO, THANK YOU ANYWAY!! I have quite enough thank you very much.

Frost Bank is a great local "Texas" Bank. I don't use them because I don't find their online banking that great, but I know several people that are very happy with them. Plus, I think that they still have free ATM withdrawals at all HEB stores, which is a nice service since HEB is our only grocery store. =)

I love Frost Bank. My family has banked with them for almost a hundred years. They are truly a local bank, run by a local family. They have lots of locations, and the service is always excellent.

We are using Broadway Bank and have been very pleased. We initially chose them because they are building abranch in Alamo ranch but since have really come to appreicate them! My husband says it's the closest thing to a real 'small town' bank that he has found since leaving San Augustine, Tx years ago! The personnel are so friendly and extremely helpful. He uses cashiers checks frequently due to business he still has in East Texas and they have yet to let him pay for one! We have been to 3 different branches now and their courtesy is consistent! Hope this is helpful! And they are local!

Well, it's not a bank--Security Service Federal Credit Union. They are open 7 days a week. I have been with them for about 12 years now, and I'm very pleased with them.

Sure wish that SSFCU would build a branch here at Potranco and 1604. Asked and was told not in the immediate plans since there is one at 1604 and Culebra, but heck, there is one at 1604 and Bandara so it would not be that bad a move, especially given the others that are moving into town and camping out at the pontranco area. We have even considered going with one of the new kids on the block given the fact they are so convenient to us now. Love SSFCU, HATE having to go to Culebra to use the ATM without charge.

Having worked at many banks over my career, including Bank of America (great big bank), Sterling Bank (horrible Texas owned bank), WaMu (great big bank) and Broadway Bank (excellent Texas bank) I would have to recommend Broadway Bank. They are a truly locally owned Texas Bank. Frost is good - but while they market themselves as a local Texas Bank - they are publically owned and just like banking at Bank of America or Chase - they are not locally owned. Broadway Bank is locally owned by the Cheaver family and has an excellent brand network and friendly branch staff. They also have a highly skilled lending staff. By far the best local bank with which to do business.
