Default Kendall County Fair... thoughts?

I'm looking for something interesting to do this weekend with the family (wife and 2 kids). Found the Kendall County Fair webpage, and it looks interesting.

What are ya'lls thoughts?

DO NOT GO!!!

Having lived in Texas for this long, I have learned to have very low expectations when trying new "adventures" in this state. But, in all honesty, the Kendall County Fair managed to fall below my lowest of low standards. I'm shocked that they even dare to charge admission.

Need an example --- the "exhibits" included legos and a collection of matches. Too dirty and tired to find the humor in this today....maybe we'll laugh about it in a few years.

I don't know anything about the Kendall County fair, but here's what I know about the Poteet Strawberry Festival: kinda trashy. As in people.

However, the Floresville Peanut Festival in October is a lot of fun. It's small-town charm at its best. The parade is great!

Agreed, not worth the time or trouble. We were very disappointed...

Only if you need to feel better about yourself or thankful for how good you got it...

I debated going to that fair yesterday but we decided instead to go to the grape stomp at Becker Vineyards in Stonewall. The husband and I thought it was neat but the kids were bored within 5 minutes so we left and went to the LBJ park. We walked around and checked out the family farm and house there. It was fun! They had people there telling us about how things were back then. Then we stopped off at the DQ in Comfort.

I agree about the Strawberry festival that the crowd is rough but when we go we go the first night and get there as soon as it opens and we leave as soon as the crowd comes in so it's not so bad. I've never been to the peanut festival but will have to check it out!

When did you last go to the Kendall County Fair? I was wondering because we though about going and the admission charge is a lot if you are correct in your assessment. I too have been dissappointed in the past and that is why I have reluctance on going to the Fair.

Thank goodness for this thread. We were really debating on going, but after looking over it again, we decided not to. At least other folks in the future will have a thread to be able to search and find this.

Agree on the Poteet festival as well. It seemed more of a carnival than anything. I did get a nice chuckle driving in, seeing "Meat on a stick" signs every 50 feet down the highway. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was rats on that stick, lol.

we went this past weekend. The entire time we were there I just kept thinking "This is a day in my life I will never get back."

We got discounts for being retired and military. If I had to pay the full price, I think I would have asked for my money back. It's false advertising if you ask me. Not really a fair at all. Just a sad display of where you might end up with no education and no dental insurance.

No kidding! LOL! I knew we were getting into weird territory when I saw tables set up on the side of the road on the way down there that had the most garishly bright fake funeral flower arrangements for sale for the multiple cemeteries lining that road. Yiiiiiikes.
