Default Scorpion Problems...Anyone Else?

Over here in the Westover Hills/Sea World/Alamo Ranch area. We've killed three scorpions in our house in three weeks. One was in a chair in the living room (with someone sitting in it, too--nice), the bathroom, and just now--in broad daylight--by the dog water bowl. I guess they are desperate for water. We're, of course, checking everything--shoes, bedding, etc...and pest control is coming on Monday. They said they've received several calls on this very problem.

I have to say, I am so incredibly freaked out by these things. They just look like the spawn of the devil himself. They are absolutely awful. While the thought of getting stung does bother me, what really gets me is the thought of these stinging my girls. So I am in full freakout-adrenaline rush mode currently. And just waiting for Monday. Monday. Monday.

My friends in that part of town have had scorpion problems for about a year, but thankfully I haven't seen one "yet" in my place in Stone Oak. (fingers crossed)

When I lived in Verde Hills, we'd kill 50-80 per night on the brick of the house. If you want them gone, buy cheap Boraxo and sprinkle it around the foundation. It doesn't kill them, it just runs them off. Won't hurt the yard either. You probably know they are not an insect and whatever is used to kill them will also kill you.....unless it's a shoe. I assume that gravel pit is still just west of yer subdivision and as long as it's there, expect scorpions to be rampant. It's a breeding ground for those puppies.

I used to work at Cornerstone Church and we had scorpions there all the time...back when they were doing lots of construction in Stone Oak.

I haven't seen any out here on the SW side, yet. We're just having a big problem with fire ants in the house. Last summer we had tons of spiders, but this summer I've barely seen any, so I think the fire ants ate the spiders.

Try the Ortho Home pest control around the slab of you house. Get the brick line and the weep holes good. Really makes a difference.

Gravel pit? I'm not sure about a gravel pit, but I will say that Westover Hills Assembly of God is about 1/3 mile from my house as the crow flies, and they are in the midst of putting a brand-spanking-new parking lot in where there used to be nothing but trees and brush. Would scorpions go that far?

Funny you say that, I bought that exact stuff last weekend. We made the pest control appointment so I didn't think I'd have to use it (because I didn't think I'd see another one between the time we called them--Tuesday--and now!). I've already taken the applicator off and am ready to attach that sucker and head outside and GIT ER DUN!

I really do have the Heebie Jeebies. Still.

When we lived off Bandera/Huebner/Eckhert area our backyard backed up to Leon Creek and we had alot of scorpions... I did get stung and needless to say it hurt like an SOB!!! It stung me in the index finger, right on the tip, where all the nerve endings are... OMG is all I can say... My arm was in pain all the way up to my shoulder for the night, up to my elbow the next day, up to wrist on the 3rd day only my hand on the 4th day and the finger that was stung was numb for weeks...

I was thinking in our new house, with the area we are in, and all the empty lots around us and construction going on that we would have alot more, but shockingly we don't...

I have found a few in the house and a couple in the garage and just last week I found another in the house... The exterminator came out today for a respray... I am very good about keeping up with our exterminator spraying every 3 months and I also use the Ortho Home Defense on my own... I go around outside and spray the foundation about 1x a week...

The scariest thing happened at the end of the school year, in May, when my 3rd grader at the time says that she pulled her binder out of her backpack and there was a scorpion on it... She screamed and threw the binder and a teacher killed it, so if your children are school age, make sure to hang their backpacks up on a door knob and keep them zipped at all times...
