Mrs, I have to agree with Soviet on this one (shocker, apparently hell does freeze over ) and say the false letter may not be the best alternative. We also went through this with a relative -- who actually hit a parked car, and drove away!! among other "adventures" --

our family knew it was time to take the keys, but we went the route of scheduling a physical with the doctor and, if memory serves, motor vehicle -- basically we said if both agree you can still drive, we won't say another word. However, if they determine it's time to hand over the keys, then that is the outcome you have to agree to.

We actually gave him the letter today... Instead of mailing it my cousin brought it over in a sealed envelope...

He read the letter and was pretty upset about not being able to drive anymore, but he did hand over the keys...

My cousin and my mom and my dad assured him that he would still get out of the house as everyone has a scheduled day for him... For now he seems okay... We'll see how he is in the next few days when he forgets why he can't drive...
