Get the loudest freaking sports whistle you can, take a deep breath - an' let 'em have it. I also have one of those tone generators from Radio Shack that, when you pick up the phone, sends the same sound that starts the "number disconnnected" announcement. The automated call systems "hears" the signal, disconnects the call and takes the number off their "call list".

Now, if I'm bored and have nothing else to do, I'll lead 'em on......even schedule an appointment - with the addy of the NB PD!

I love the whistle idea! That's great! We get some of those 'unknown caller' displays too. That's when I just let my voice mail get it.

I like the idea of the "tone generator".
Where did you get yours?
I called a couple of Radio Shacks and they said they had not heard of them.
I also tried doing a search on RadioShack.com did not see anything there.

in your case, they evade your filter. theyre just trying to sell you something or try and pull some scam on you.

best thing i can say is invest in a google voice number and have it forward to your cell/land line.

thats what i do. gives me a way to block numbers also without paying for a service like that.,

I think this is the "tone generator" that is being referred to. Radio Shack used to sell them, but apparently they no longer carry them:

Google "Privacy Technologies TeleZapper" - they're still available. Like I said - bought ours at Radio Shack years ago - like 6-8 years back, and still runnin' fine.

a more simple (and free) solution is to register a number with google voice (they give em out for free right now) and have that number forward to your cell or w/e phone you're using.

you can block calls, set up voicemail, screen calls, etc etc.

free through 2011 and SHOULD be free through 2012, though google hasnt confirmed the 2012 part yet.
