I have noticed that lately HEB has been removing name brand items off of their shelves in favor of their own brand...is it just me or is this happening at all HEB's?

I buy Pagoda Egg Rolls at Walmart when they're in stock since HEB insists on selling its own egg rolls only.

Yep, it's their right, but many of their products are just of mediocre quality.
They need competition like in Houston. HEB in Houston is not to compare with what we see here in San Antonio. Here, they sadly, just don't care....

Sometimes they seem to push their own brands more than other times. They give coupons sometimes where you get their brand of an item free when you buy the brand name item.

Their store brands are not usually equivalent to the brand name products. They've got a new line of generics called Econo Max that are really not edible...even my kids, who cheerfully eat cafeteria lunch, haven't been able to eat any of the few Econo Max items we've tried, like the macaroni and cheese or the cans of tuna.

I've noticed that too...HEB's frozen egg rolls taste like garbage. They sometimes have some in the meat section that taste a little bit better, near where they've got the precooked brisket and tubs of carne guisada and that kind of stuff.

I buy egg rolls at Sam's, they have a box of 20 for $9 and they're a brand called Minh which is made by Schwan's and tastes pretty good.

If you ask their corporate employees about it, they'll lie through their teeth and deny it but it's pretty clear they're getting rid of all brands except their own.

Shop elsewhere, seriously.

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Back when there were choices, I had Albertson's to myself most days.

Oh, yeah. The Kleenex brand tissue is on the bottom shelf, such that if you are an old dude - you have to break you back to get at it. Their's is in the middle shelf.

However, some of the Central Market stuff is ok. The oatmeal is pretty good. Better than the Whole Foods brand.
