Excellent point! And thanks for being there just in case!

I applaud Texas and Governor Rick Perry for this proactive approach.. I've been tracking storms for a while and I can tell you first hand of the uncertainties that lie out there. For instance, no one knew Erin would reintensify over Oklahoma yesterday morning!
Having the resources there prior to any potential landfall is key from making a catastrophic situation even worse. Even though I can say with a high degree of certainty that Texas is safe from a direct hit does not mean that Northern Mexico is not -- and that would mean rough seas/storm surge that could potentially flood South Padre Island and other low-lying areas along the South Texas coast -- and even the threat for Tornadoes being that Texas could see a few outer rain bands from the northside of Dean.
This is indeed one of those better safe than sorry deals, and I hope this trend continues. People complain that the government is never there, well they are here now -- and I for one am thankful for it.

Call Animal Care Services to volunteer with intake of animals. Kelly A/F base where this will happen. Then there will be a need to contact owners and get the animals into foster care.

Heard that some hotels are all ready booked up due to folks moving up this way because of the hurricane. Looks like there won't be that great a need as Dean heads off to Mexico.
San Antonio did a great job wit Katrina and Rita on the fly. With all the prep it is surely going to be as smooth as can be.

Looks like Dean will not be close to Texas, after all. What a relief. Props to Governor Perry for pulling out all the stops on this one.
