Default Hurricane Dean and how you can help...

They are planning to open the shelter at KellyUSA for evacuees from the south, like they did for Katrina. They will get official word on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. If anyone is interested in helping, or being on standby, PM me and I will put you in touch with members of my church who are organizing volunteers. Hopefully there won't be a need, but Dean looks like a monster as of now.

Thanks Sapphire, my parents just spent the weekend here in SA buying supplies that you can no longer buy down in the Valley. They just headed home today. If i need to drive down there and help, I will. However, it looks like the projected path is going to be Mexico (again). Those poor folks always get hit hard and their homes can't take it.

Well, I've heard that it will hit anywhere from the northern end of Mexico all the way over to New Orleans. I hope your parents stay safe--at HEB today the cashier told me it's been crazy with people stocking up. After last week's run-in with Erin, I guess everyone is a little freaked.

Let's hope and pray it makes landfall in a sparsely populated area with no loss of life and only minimal property damage. I guess we will know more in a couple of days.

The current NOAA track has it hitting central Mexico.

If it ends up on the upper end of the track Brownsville could be smacked with the upper edge of the storm, which is the worst part.

It certainly is good to be prepared but it looks like this might be a non event for the USA at least.

This has been the most over publicized event since...umm hmm can't think of any others. I like how all this gov't aid is coming for something that isn't even going to happen. I understand being proactive. But there's nothing to be proactive about here...

So I guess you don't want to be added to the volunteer list. Got it....

I suppose after all the flack after Katrina, we can expect this kind of over publicizing from now on. The sad part is that people will do exactly this and not take things seriously......sort of like the boy that cried wolf and no one listened.

And Katrina was not projected to hit New Orleans until 2 days prior to it making landfall. I only say that because we are still 3-4 days out and the "projected landfall" could definitely change. No one knows for sure where this thing is gonna hit. Anyway, we will be out there to help if needed, and hopefully, help will not be needed.

We will definitely be there to help if needed. I just don't see it happening.

I was definitely worried about South Padre Island--i have many friends there. That island is only about maybe half a mile wide in some parts.
